Drambo/AUM problem: Midi in not working.

I wonder if anybody has experienced this:
Drambo (used as a synth module) as input node in AUM. Suddenly midi in stops working.
Thanks to the midi indicators in the midi routing matrix of AUM, it is clear that midi works and is being sent to Drambo. In my synth in Drambo, I have put a midi monitor, and nothing comes in except if I use Drambos pads to trigger some notes.
This is in an AUM setup I have been using for months (Drambo has been sound engine for my Linnstrument) but as of today, it suddenly refuses incoming midi of any kind.
If I set up a channel using Drambo as insert, midi in works. If I use Drambo as stand-alone, midi in works.
I have tried shutting everything down and rebooted iPad, but no luck.

Any ideas?

  • Have you already tried this? Long press on 1 and then change Receives MIDI
    to “Always”?

  • Thanks. Just tried it but it changed nothing.

Can you post some screenshots of the setup and maybe a zipped AUM project as you have it set up?

  • @LarsDaniel . Have you maybe enabled the AUM MIDI filtering for this instance of Drambo? Use the hamburger menu beside Drambo to check.

I made a new AUM project making it as simple as possible and the problem persists. If you open the attached project, you will see first a channel with Drambo running a tiny synth. It will not receive midi from the outside no matter what.
Next to it is a channel with the same tiny synth as insert, and here everything works as normal.
To further exclude various hardware, I ran the iPad with no outside connections, and the problem persists: The virtual AUM keyboard can not reach Drambo in the input node, but reaches the Drambo in the insert.
I have also tried other synth apps as input node, and they work as expected.

  • Now I tried opening the above file on my older iPad, and here both instances of Drambo works as expected.
So something is wrong in a nasty way with my new iPad. Apart from rebooting the iPad which I have already done, what else is there to do? Deleting apps and reinstalling them?

As I mentioned, I have been running the same setup for months without any problems, but right before the midi in problem started, I had for the very first time been running LK in my AUM project, so I can’t help thinking that that somehow have had something to do with the problem.

Nope, EVERYTHING midi is being fed to it.

Which iOS versions are running on these two iPads?

Both Drambo instances receive midi fine from both the AUM keyboard and an attached NanoKEY Studio for me here.

No problems here. If you build it from scratch do you have the same problem?

Are you using beta versions of Drambo or AUM?

This was building from scratch. And no betas.

  • I checked on iPad Air 2 iOS 14.8.1and it works fine. Previous test was on iPhone iOS 15.

    Mysterious

Very mysterious. I must say, I do feel like there is an evil midi spell on me sometimes. I already have two modules in my hardware modular that has really strange and apparently completely unique midi issues (have been working with the developer on solving them, but he can not reproduce).

Anyway I have now moved my usual three Drambo instances from being input nodes to being inserts, and now things are working as usual. Not a problem solved, but at least I have a fine workaround.

You might want to post about this on the Beepstreet forums. Maybe Drambo's developer will have an idea.
