Line out only Soundcard for iPad
Hi, I see some recent discussions on sound cards, however, I only want a Soundcard for stereo line out plus midi in only, so don't need any mic preamps etc. Hoping to find something of great Audio quality and small footprint. Any recommendations?
(Currently lightning, but USB C shortly with new iPad)

The 'dongles' work surprisingly well... (Lightning->3.5mm and USB-C->3.5mm).
Don't they utilise the internal iPad preamp for audio though? I also need Midi 5 pin in.
The dongles have a built-in DAC so all conversion happens in the dongle.

That's for the Lightning version and here the USB-C version.

When 5-Pin midi is needed you could take a look at Steinberg UR-22C, Arturia MiniFuse 2, UA Volt 2, SSL2+...
...or use a USB hub and connect a USB -> 5-Pin Midi adapter and something like Zoom U-22.
All depends on the budget...
It seems rare to find something just outputs never mind something that also has 5 pin din.
I tried to find something a good few years ago and the thing that met my requirements best was an Alesis control hub. I’ve had a wee look and things don’t really seem to have changed.
The Alesis control hub might fit the bill if you can find one. They were not expensive new so not ‘high end’. That said, I used to use one live and it sounded good enough.

It’s really small, but a funny shape and a bit light and flimsy feeling.
Still works after 7 years though.
Probably best to just get something with inputs and not use them.
Look for a used 2x2 interface with MIDI? What you exactly want is a USB Korg PlugKey but I’m not aware of any such thing existing. I paid £75 for a used Evo 4 (no MIDI) on eBay, I’d expect you to find a suitable interface for similar - any of Samu’s suggestion would be fine.
