Chiptune and Cinematic Loops
I’ve started to put together a collection of chiptune and cinematic loops for indie games. They’re composed in Beatly Pro, exported as loops into AUM, and then finished with Spatializer, SideBand Remix, and Barricade.
Would love some feedback.

Special shout-out to @AntoninCharvat for inspiring this new direction for my music career.
They sound good. I recommend cranking the tempo on “80s Synthy” to almost-hyper levels.
I’ll have to try that!
One thing to consider for 'classic' Chiptunes is that the tempo was often 'locked' to frame-rate divisions...
So for the PAL C64 at 50Hz classic tempos include 75BPM, 125BPM & 150BPM.
Instrument parameters were processed every 'frame' so for 50Hz PAL that would be at 20ms intervals.
(So the classic chip-arpeggio changes the note pitch every 20ms).
Cheers!
Yeah I’ve noticed that the trackers all lock at specific tempos, never understood why. This explains it. Appreciate the insight.
My target market probably doesn’t need the tunes locked at those specific tempos. But I’m also going to sell custom loops, and tempo is going to be one of the parameters they provide.
'Modern' trackers such as Renoise, SunVox etc. allow free BPM and the effects use TPL (ticks per line/row) which controls the effect speed.
The early Amiga trackers were synced to 'Frame Rate' and later on got CIA timing with free BPM.

(This is another way to do chip arpeggios in Drambo, it's a build-from scratch patch).
The 'Sync To Framerate' is one reason why NTSC(60Hz) music plays faster compared to PAL(50Hz).
(Ie. if a music was composed on a PAL machine it played faster on NTSC and vice versa).
With chip music part of the 'sound' is the speed at which the sound shaping parameters change the sound.
BPM is secondary...
Here's a chip-tune where the BPM is slow but effects are running every frame.

(This tune is etched into my brain after I saw the Think Twice III demo on the C64 way back in time).
Can't help it, I just love 'chip sound stuff'
Cheers!
I am always impressed by your knowledge and passion for music and music production.
Beatly Pro is my first dip into the chip world. October is next on my list. Eventually I’ll get into DefleMask, but it’s a bit intimidating. And I’m curious when BitBoy will finally release. I pinged them on Twitter to see if they had an update since it was supposed to release in November.
BitBoy Studio will be done when it's 'done' and it will be 'done'.
From what I know it's a 'extra spare-time project' for the developer and he will not release anything that is 'half done'.
Both discoDSP OPL and SquareSynth 2 might be a good options for plenty of chip-type sounds.
One thing to keep in mind is that most synths can do basic chip-sounds (I mean it's mostly saw, square/pwm, triangle & noise waveforms and some clever programming).
For example both TAL-UN-O-LX and SynthMaster 2 can do very convincing chip sounds.
Most well composed tunes work equally well as fully blow arrangements as well as 'chip tunes'.
Here's one example MYTH by Jeroen Tel as a C64 Chip Tune...

...and a 'Metal Cover' (Not me but I wish I could play like that!).

I think focus on composition first and substitute the sounds later yields best results![:sunglasses: :sunglasses:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
Cheers & Happy Holidays!
Thanks man! I’m really happy you’re having fun with Beatly Pro! Can’t wait to hear more from you.
I have actually considered taking some of my already-released tunes and swapping out the synths for chip sounds.
