SFM Tutorials: MelodyBud from Cem Olcay
Cem Olcay has just released a new fantastic app called MelodyBud, a new Midi Generative sequencer. It is a generative sequencer which means you rely on randomisation settings to generate a new melody.
As you can see from the app you can run it as an AUv3 instance or also in standalone mode. In this tutorial I am running it inside AUM, my favourite Audio Mixer.
MelodyBud allows you to select a default scale and Key so that you can target the melody creation to your taste and needs.
This is what the tutorial demonstrate:
- Selection of key and scale
- Creation of melody by step selection
- Creation of melody using the random function
- Settings for changing the number of steps used
- The ability to randomise all steps or a particular step for your melody
- How to change settings for Octave, Velocity, Glide, Ratchet and Gate
- Creation of different patterns and how to switch between them or using your favourite Midi CC# message
- Change of rates for different playing speed for different instances of MelodyBud
I tried where possible to make the tutorial a bit more musical, so I used Animoog Z for the main melody, iSEM from Arturia for the bass line and I also added Digistick for drums.
I hope you enjoy the tutorial and find it useful.

Good demo, Leo. Thanks
Thanks very much @sfm for this and your other tutorials this year. I like your very focused matter of fact approach. Just off to buy this to add to my other Buds.
Thanks for the tutorial! I have almost all the other *Bud apps and this one looks fun too.
Merry Christmas
