Merry Christmas my iOS brethren! I first got active here not much more than two years ago when I fled the early days of covid in China for the relative safety (and beachside bliss!) of China for Thailand. Few months later, back in China, work situation decimated due to covid, i had lots of time to play with my iPad.
I made my first proper tutorial vid when Charles here asked me about one of the Cs Boulanger labs apps and I thought, hell lemme make a walkthrough, shitty mic bedamned. I spent the next year and a half making vids and loved it. I learnt so much. It was the perfect remedy for what most of us here suffer from - too many apps, not enough time to learn them. I loved people's appreciation as well as the genuine connections I made with people whose forum names I forget now but: Chris, Charlie, Ian, Nigel and many others. I once got a $400 bucks donation on PayPal from a beautiful stranger who loved my work. That was a buzz. That said, since I stopped doing spoken walkthroughs, I've had zero PayPal haha. This is not a complaint - it's friendly advice to other silent YouTubers 😂
Unfortunately, around this time last year my eyes started going weird. Got cataract ops in both eyes. Should have been a simple thing but it wasn't, so I have side effects to this day. That made me cut down my screen time. But I also realised that it would take years to ever get my youtube channel to the level where it would pay off for the work involved.
Financially precarious, I decided it was time to tip my toes into crypto. Actually, it wasn't quite a tipping toes. Within a few months i was balls deep. So far no regrets, though I know that some of my twitter followers don't appreciate my crypto tweets. Then again, some love them.
Life is a weird road. My youtube channel is still going but I don't think I'll be going back to detailed walkthroughs any time soon. If the crypto cards play out well, I'll be financially free within the next few years. Maybe sooner. The channel will still be going. My love for iOS is strong! My app addiction is less strong. That's a good thing. But i am no longer a slave to the YouTube algo and i love that!
I hope soon I will start making more finished pieces of music. I'll ne putting out some nfts soon in a collaboration with an artist friend.
If you are a regular of this forum or of my youtube channel, you'll know I'm not really the confessional type. But Rustik's thread popped up tonight after a great Christmas dinner (and a few good whiskies) with friends and I felt like sharing.
It's been a tough few years for most people. Although I'm less active here than I used to be, I have so much fondness for this community.

Congrats on jumping into the deep end of the crypto pool, @Gavinski. My crypto investments thus far have been quite modest (that’s just the way I tend to invest), but the growth curve I’ve seen on these cryptos is off the charts compared to nearly all other investment options at this point. Cryptos are evolving even though Bitcoin has already been around for a decade, but those getting in at this point are still considered early adopters.
@Gavinski I'm going to miss your tutorials bro they were good stuff. But you do you brother, whatever makes you happy in the end. I started to have issues with my hands and feet with peripheral neuropathy from my lymphoma treatments. You really start to realize how we take certain things for granted (like just being able to see or walk, etc).
