iFunbox dead on iOS7?

Hello folks, Gaz from Sonic Touch here! Sorry it's taken me a while to log in and join in on here but I will be around and about now!

Question: after learning about iFunbox on this forum I downloaded the pro version thinking that it could be just the ticket for what I am working on but it seems to only display blank content when I look at the local folder. Should I be seeing my Loopy files here etc? Finding it hard to find info elsewhere so I turn to you guys. I am wondering if some file loophole has been closed by Apple and the App maker has failed to inform the App Store? I know it only cost £1.49 but for me it does zilch and thus is a rip off (albeit a mini one). It could also be that I am being a doofus and am missing something....

Cheers

Gaz

  • It always worked for me, but I'm on Windows.

Welcome doode! It's good to have another multi-instrumental bass player on board.
Ah yeah, forgot there was a question to answer. I've used it since upgrading to 7 and always found what I was looking for. Some apps will not allow you to delete/alter app content (beatmaker 2/oscilab) just the shared folder but at least you should see it. I've heard that it was not longer possible to upload own waveforms to Animoog since IOS 7 update but I may have dreamt it up.

  • Hey @Gaz, Welcome! I find that sometimes I have to use classic mode for some things to show up. I'm not sure why. You might try that. Also, in classic mode, there are a couple of different places where things show up, and if you don't see anything in one of the file branches, you may need to try the other branch. Overall, I really like the program though. It works better for me than any other program I know about. :-)

  • Still working in 7.1.1 hooked up to an iMac. Make sure you are in the shared files folder for the app, not the app folder itself. You'll see inside that a folder for each Loopy project.

I wasn't aware there was a pro version. I took a quick look on their site, and I'm using a slightly older version of iFunbox, but all the same functionality seems to be there in the newer version (classic mode basically looks and act as a regular file manager, and this is where you'll get access to most other stuff besides the regular iTunes filesharing things). Make sure you're using the genuine iFunbox (http://i-funbox.com/). And I do believe you'll need Windows for it all to work properly(?), or has that changed?

I've tried it on iPhone 5 and iPad Air with the latest iOS 7.1.x (not jail broken), hooked up to a windows xp PC.

By the way, there's a program called iExplorer that I used a few times back on iOS 6. But switched to iFunbox since it had a better interface.

  • I'm on 7.1.1, and the (free) iFunBox works "sometimes". The first time I used it was with Doug's video on iMaschine and how to extract samples from that program. It worked great for that. But on other apps (like Oscilab), many users have noted that you either can't access the file folders, or you can see them but not modify them. I really think it's app-by-app.

You can access and alter content in the surrounding folders that's created for every installed app (documents, library etc). But the main payload folder is locked down tightly by Apple.

  • Hi, @Gaz. I tried the Pro version and it was so terrible...
I came bak to the previous one and everything is OK again.
That's my advice: Avoid the Pro.

  • Free version works fine on latest iOS and latest version of Mavericks.

  • Works here too. Esp. the free.

Welcome Gaz! from a fellow Welshman :-) Love the SonicState stuff. Keep up the good work. I use the free version of iFunbox on ML OK.

  • Wow loads of great replies thank you!

I think I have been a bit of a dilly donkin (i.e. Daft!) and assumed that you could download it only on the iPad and have a look at what files have been created on the ipad alone. I am away at the moment (in Orkney - highly recommended BTW) with only my iPad/no laptop and I wanted to just have a look at the files I was creating in various apps and thought I could do that with iFunbox after what I'd read.

  • Hey Gaz. Welcome. Love your enthusiasm in the Sonic Touch vids.
I never realised there was an iFunbox app. I use the desktop version successfully on windows PC. Not sure this apps is even related to that?

  • Hi Gaz, great to see you on here! I enjoy your sonic touch episodes a lot and I'm really looking forward to the next one.
I just had a look at those iOS apps called iFunbox and found both the free and paid version are 1.0 and available since a couple of days ago. I don't think they have anything to do with the PC/Mac app and really seem to be a complete rip off. Sometimes I wonder why apple allowl that kind of crap into their store. Where's the quality control in the app store?

@Gaz - Same name, different software. The iFunbox most of us are talking about is an application that runs on a PC/Mac so that you don't have to use iTunes to transfer files back and forth between iDevice and PC/Mac. Also gives you access to the raw file system if your into that. The iFunbox App (iOS) is, as far as I can tell, only another generic File manager App. Doesn't have access to other Apps files. Similar to iFileExpress (from the same group that makes the iFunbox Win/Mac program). As far as I know, there is no iOS app that let's you see the files of another app, not even the files that are shown in iTunes file sharing.

  • Right! I see where I went wrong DOING! goes to show when a cursory glance leads to stupid assumptions. Thanks again everyone for your help and nice comments. We have got some good and different Sonic Touch's planned for near future including a great competition in the next one!

  • Gaz, I have to say that you make me feel good in the world just by being exactly who you are. I love your reviews and enthusiasm! And no, I didn't grow up on Mr. Rogers...

  • Yea, even I have tried playing around with iFunbox, and it is possible to get into the file system of the various apps installed.

i have went with some installation steps over: http://www.omgtop5.com/install-whatsapp-windows-ipad-using-bluestacks/

  • Hi! I have an iPad 2 with FW 8.1 and I use the last release (no BETA) of iFunbox. I can access and alter content in the surrounding folders that's created for every installed app (documents, library etc). But I can´t access in the main payload folder. I install "Apple File Conduit 2" it´s better than AFC2, and I read "Jailbroken"... But with AFC2 installed the problem is the same.
    Why?

  • iFunBox doesn't connect for me. I started using Syncios.

  • I'm using v 1.5.0 and it is working fine. Infact I just backed up all of my most important music apps on ios7. I did have some crashes when messing with system files few days ago tho.
