Hypothetical question: can you get a refund for an IAP?

If I buy and app today and also buy the IAP and then decide I want to get a refund do I only get the refund for the app or does Apple also refund the cost of the IAP?

I'm not in this situation but was just wondering what the deal was.

  • I have gotten a refund from an IAP once several years ago so I think its possible but not sure how easy it is to get to actually happen

  • Have done, took some emailing back and forth…

  • I just did this the other day for pure synth platinum iap
I had already bought and was trying to restore on new device but screwed up and repurchased bassalicious
Once you get a receipt from Apple you can request refund

    OK. Thank you.

I bought 2 Pure Synth Platinum IAP week ago and my refund request was denied in both cases. I opened request again with explanation that I'm EU citizen and have a right to return goods in 14 days period. Now I'm waiting for Apple answer.

I think you can only return digital products if they are faulty in the UK.

My request was refused probably due to my fault. I chose option "item didn't meet my expectations" (or something like that) instead of "right of withdrawal". So we will see next time.

What? How can they turn you down for that? ‘We have duly considered your request. On this occasion we have carefully examined your search history, previous app purchases, music catalogue, receipts for instruments purchased, countries visited in the past two years and your medical records. Unfortunately (for you) we have concluded that the evidence suggests that your statement is false and that the IAP did in fact meet your expectations and may have even slightly exceeded them. Have a nice day.

  • I returned an IAP last week and specified the reason as "My purchase didn't work as expected" and it was accepted and refunded with no issues. It's very rare for me to request a refund, so that may be a factor.

  • :D
We assume frequency of refunds affects Apple’s decision... they could just say ‘This is your 5th and last refund. Ever.’
