Triumph Of Trenton

The Battle of Trenton took place on this day 245 years ago. On Christmas night, 1776, George Washington made the famous Delaware River Crossing to defeat the surprised and partying Hessians on the day after. It was a small but pivotal battle that proved the pluck of Washington’s emaciated force.

When I improvised this track I had no thought of history. My thoughts, if any, we’re of melody.
This piece may not be everyone’s cup of British tea, but, for me, it is something special, with hints of Ennio Morricone.

Lately I have become fatigued with synth sounds. The categories, Lead, Keys, Pads… have become, for me, the very essence of repetition. My search for sounds is very random and haphazard, but it often, surprisingly, works out. For this I stumbled upon Digitalism2000’s “Reedy Leady”. Strangely corny and retro it inspired what, for me, is a provocative, haunting and ascending melody (improved, I have to say, by some intense midi editing). The spirit of triumph and title we’re sheer coincidence. I had no idea, even as I chose “Triumph For Trenton”, that today was the very anniversary of the engagement. I want to think these serendipities happen because when I am engaged in music creation I am open in a supercharged way… but who, the fuck, knows what’s going on. These days we could use a symbolic Battle Of Trenton. Something, anything, to signal a sea change. Today, anyway, I’ll settle for a track that grabs my heart. Note from 2:00 on…one of my best melodic stretches to date.

Digitalism2000, Mellowsound, SWAM Alto Flute, the great (and usually unrecognized) strings from PureSynthPlatinum, BeatHawk Total Bass and Rock Drummer.

Thanks, guys and @Michael, for providing the space to create for so many of us.

    Nice job!

  • Consider yourself symbolically enlisted @Paulieworld. 2022 is gonna be interesting to say the least.

  • Whoa... what's that robot singer doing in the row boat? "Reedy Leedy"?

This one puts me in that "listening for musical quotes mode" and evaluating notes for suitability against the chords. I listened to too much academic jazz and created that filter to
determine if the soloist did all the right drills for mastering playing on standard changes.
Not sure I really want to change my brain now or even if I can.

Too many violations of jazz harmonic theory and I get anxious and start watch the clock.
