Anyone else got a Novation Circuit Tracks?

I've just ordered one. Going to try some DAWless stuff.
Anyone else got one? How do you find it?

  • I don't, I'm sorry, but I have an itch to go DAWless too, will buy an SP404 mk2 as soon as it's available . Good luck with your gear, let us know what you think! :)

  • Yes I bought myself one for Christmas. I like the simplicity and workflow. Nice sounding synth engine too. I bought it as a companion for my Deluge but I haven't paired them up yet because I'm finding other uses for it. It syncs up really well to the iPad using the Yamaha MD-BT01 Bluetooth MIDI Adaptor.

I’ll be doing the same when it arrives tomorrow

  • I use it as a midi controller, kind of Ableton push for Drambo, which is way more flexible in terms of sound.

Circuits have great sequencers though and having 4 midi tracks plus 4 drum tracks is definitely great if you have other gear to drive. I love mine but probably for all the wrong reasons = great midi controller 😬😇

  • It arrived :)

Now off to YouTube to follow a shed load of tutorials.

  • Get the Patchbase editor IAP. Breathed new life into my old Circuit.

  • I have one. It's a 2 in 1. A cool groovebox dawless and a powerful midi controller and sequencer for iPad.

  • Yep. I have the Tracks + Rhythm. Love the pair.

Not sure where to find it. Do you have a link? Thanks

Not sure how to do Appstore links. The ipad app is called Patchbase. It’s free to download and you pay for each synth editor or take a subscription. You can try the editors free for a week.

  • I have one, and I stop using it when it failed to get the advertised 6 notes polyphony and I started using GrooveRider GR-16.

  • The synth engine is enough, but having to connect it to a PC to edit the patches is not what I wanted.

Also having only 64 samples for drums per pack gets old quick. Drum sequencing is very fun tho, anda can led to nice surprises.

Thanks. Very good but very expensive.

  • I have the original Circuit, which I bought earlier this year used. For peanuts.

    I really like it.

In my case I use the circuit standalone as a self contained idea generator/musical instrument.

It’s nice to get away from screens completely and just play music. The sequencer is so quick and easy to use it’s really fast to save any ideas.

The simplicity is key for me. I like having limits as it stops temptation to incessantly (and unnecessarily) tweak and keeps me focussed on music rather than production.

I do spend a while every now and then programming my own patches using the free editor on desktop (hopefully safari will add midi support one day!) and especially using my own samples. For which iOS is a great source of sounds.

It I get an idea going that I like i just record each synth and drum channel as audio into my DAW (and/or BlocsWave) as well as the MIDI if necessary one channel at a time.

I also have a circuit mono station which is a fantastic mono synth.

when I have the time and space, the two circuits plus a couple of additional hardware synth, drum machine and a litttle mixer make for a cool minimalist hardware setup too.

It’s a versatile little box which I think gets unfairly criticised for its weaknesses when it’s core functionality is so good.

So yeah. Primarily I use mine to jam with. It’s very freeing having no ulterior motive and just playing music. For me it’s The groovebox version of just picking up a guitar and playing. It’s so quick and instant to get into, and it’s simplicity and limitations make that possible.

Fancier more complicated grooveboxes are also great but don’t have the total immediacy of the Circuit. The lack of screen is my favourite feature!

Some really amazing sounding patches for the Circuit Tracks:

And the Circuit OG as well 👊🏼™️

  • edited April 2022

Don’t do that, I’ve been thinking about revisiting the Circuit lately. 🤫 Maybe picking up the tracks to replace my OG.

    Oh it’s on now 🤪
The Tracks ID and workflow is so much better than the OG. Worth the cost of the upgrade.

  • It hasn't usb-c audio, a missed chance. Roland did that better with the SP-404 MKII.
