For the folks trying this out -- if it's not working, a really interesting test is...

    1) Add transmit to an effects slot somewhere (I use AUM)
    2) Toggle on the sending of audio
    3) Switch to Safari, and go to 127.0.0.1:8675 (use the same device where you've got transmit running)

You should get a response from Wireless Audio -- a little bit of HTML, with some links to my web site. I'll add some debug information here in an update. If you don't see a response at all -- that's good to know too....

  • Transmitting from BM3

I get the web page on the same device, across devices, and from a Mac. Just no connectivity between transmit and receive.

  • Just got it working! Sent from NS2 to BM3. Almost seems like visiting the page woke it up for me?

Ooh. Very interesting. What are you using as a host for the receiver? I've been testing with AUM, but maybe the network connection out of the receiver is getting blocked due to some permission issue. It's not clear to me how much permission of a host app is "inherited" by a plug-in.

    Success!

Tested in AUM, Audiobus, and Loopy Pro.

I don't think host permissions are applicable. At least from my understanding of how plugins use the network. I definitely could be wrong there.

SonoBus does something much like this over wifi, and works in any host I've tried.

@SecretBaseDesign so I could Wi-Fi my GarageBand synths into Cubasis 3 now???
    I’m asking because I’m a poor reader of details.😕

I just recorded GarageBand into BM3. I dont think Cubasis can do that natively though (record AU audio) but there are workarounds potentialy, like using a plugin that comes with ApeMatrix, perhaps.

  • Not working for me
Got the web page to open but still no joy
    Sky broadband
    iPhone 11 and iPad Pro
    Both on 15.1 iOS
    Shame

  • fwiw, when i did a localhost connection between Drambo and AUM with Sonobus, it would only connect if AUM in the background was playing.

It'll get fixed. That's what Beta's are about.

I've never been able to get the ape matrix thing to work in Cubasis unfortunately.

  • Updated beta version should be going out now. I've added something to trigger the permissions check on network access -- with luck, that'll open up the ports, and let the receiver connect to the transmitter for those folks who are running into trouble.

The information available from the transmit plug-in through the web interface -- point a browser on the same device to 127.0.0.1:8675 -- should give a list of available Internet interfaces. I'm suspecting that the interface being reported in the transmit plug-in might not be the right one for external connections on some devices.

A lot of the guts of this are non-standard; Apple doesn't exactly encourage stuff like this, so in some spots, I'm flying blind. Very much appreciate the help of the folks here!

    Connected!!

Spoke too soon. Now it won't reconnect.

[edit] I exited AUM on the transmit side, then started again and it connected. Latency is super good so far!

  • Out of curiosity, what is the expectation as to how the performance is likely to compare to Sonobus?

Not sure if you mean DSP performance (sounds like you can only use one at a time anyway) but if you are wondering about latency on a single device routing to itself, In my video above at the end I mute and unmute the overlapped audio in BM3. Pretty tight! Suppose I could have done a better example with just a single clean high hat or nerded out and recorded a waveform of the overlap and zoomed in etc.

  • Since update
Quickly got it running this morning
    Nice work
Just run a few synths through it
Not quite sure how it will be with 2 kids streaming Netflix and playing Xbox online
    But will find out tonight
    Cool

It’s far better far as latency goes based on my experience. Simpler to set up too.

  • Hey @SecretBaseDesign any chance of making the receiver plugin type one that could be loaded in a Cubasis midi track? I know it doesn’t do anything having to do with midi, but Cubasis doesn’t list it so that it can be used. The transmit FX can be loaded, but not the Receive plugin.

It just might solve some Cubasis routing and recording shortcomings if it can be made to work.

  • wimwim

Hummm …. I can’t load the receive plugin in any of my track based daws. I suspect this is because of the four letter Audio Unit type. Probably needs to be one or these?

    Instrument aumu kAudioUnitType_MusicDevice
    Generator augn kAudioUnitType_Generator

    Just guessing.

  • So could this be used to stream live audio out of GarageBand into Loopy Pro on the same device via loopback?

    Yep. Works.

I don’t know how to keep from hearing the GarageBand track though. So you have to turn off monitoring in Loopy or you get doubled up sound. On the bright side, that’s a great way to quickly hear the added latency.

[edit] I put the Ape Matrix gain-pan plugin after it in the GarageBand fax chain to mute the GB output.

@SecretBaseDesign - an output mute for the transmit (post send to receive plugin) would be a great addition.

I’m should see if I can make some measurements. My only test was to play some Ruismaker pads from one device while monitoring on the other. It was surprisingly playable.

Sweet! I just grabbed a Drummer track in like two minutes.
    (Don’t tell Apple.)

Right on. Just thinking, is this the first app that enables this? I seem to recall something that lets you do this with an effects insert that records to file, but I can’t think of another solution that does it live.
