Sparks - indie guitar in collaboration with JanKun
This is mostly guitar-based, apart from a little SampleTron and some Quanta for the atmospheric noise in the intro section.
The electric guitar parts are mine, recorded in Auria using Saturn as an amp sim with an Ownhammer Marshall 4x4 IR as a cabinet (loaded in IMPULStation). @JanKun also added some lovely acoustic guitar arpeggios and the slide that is heard in the background, as well the piano and Rhodes textures in the break. The closing solo was played with an E-Bow.
Lyrics in the spoiler:
There is a cold
And empty place
An endless span of silent space
And I see
I can’t win
Against all that is and all that’s been
We’re sparks
In the night
A flickering of light
We’re running for cover
We’re holding each other
So wake me and shake me and tell me you'll take me
You can’t avoid
The hand of fate
It will snuff out all you create
And you’re caught
On a pin
This is not a fight you can win
We’re sparks
In the night
A flickering of light
We’re running for cover
We’re holding each other
So wake me and shake me and tell me you'll take me

Nice work guys... it captures the mood of the lyrics perfectly. What I like about music like this is that it validates some feelings people have and wonder if they are alone. Music like this confirms that you are not alone even when everyone around you seems so different.
Joni Mitchell's "Blue" did this for me during a rough patch. I still tend to work on the Blue side of the music spectrum and seek to essay some dark, sombre emotions with sound.
There's a smaller audience making music like this but it's a grateful audience because it offers them a connection to some universal truths about the nature of existence... it can be a lonely life.
Thanks, that's very thoughtful feedback. I love melancholy and/or dreamy music, so it's nice to hear I'm not alone in sharing that preference.
Awesome. There's a lot more dynamics in this, and the lyrics, yet brief, capture a lot and gives the space for the solo to grow.
Starting with the intro, definitely get the nostalgic vibe and it suits your style of rock.
Great call collaborating with @JanKun
Only feedback was that when listening to the song in stereo via my stereo speakers, it's great. But when I heard it in mono, from my cellphone (which was how I found the song) it was difficult to hear the vocals, which made the guitar seem to clash.
Overall, was good.
Thanks for listening and for the feedback. I will check the mix in mono.
