Is there a continuous audio and/or midi recorder like Ableton’s capture midi?

Is there an auv3 app that can record non-stop or at least for an extended loop (like several minutes not like a looper pedal)? I have the classic ‘stage fright’ where as soon as i hit the record button in AUM all my great ideas i just had go out the window. So i thought it would be cool if there was an app that captured things in the background, a bit like Ableton’s ‘capture midi’ button

  • Imaginando LK can record up to 999 bars, and when you're done it's easy to scroll, zoom and extract what you want to keep.
The Piano Roll performance has improved dramatically with a recent update.

This thread touched on the subject (for MIDI) https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/1035906 For audio then Loopy Pro’s retrospective functionality is pretty cool for this, though I don’t know if it is as open ended as you would like. I don’t know of anything that does retrospective MIDI in the same way but I would be surprised if it was not a planned feature for Loopy Pro.

@mangecoeur I’m working on one which can go for hours (and likely more, just haven’t tested any longer)! Let me know if you’re interested: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/47179/midi-recorder-visualizer-testers-ideas-wanted#latest

  • @TonalityApp that would be interesting yeah, i’d like to give it a try!

  • Neon Audio Editor can record up to 15 minutes of audio and quickly edit it any way you need.
Loopy Pro can probably record far longer because it streams to disk. You can trim the loop in it too.

Loopy Pro also has retrospective record which is great for overcoming record fright. Just set the number of bars that you think you're going to want to keep, then play until you get a good take. Once you do, just tap the loop and it'll dump the buffer into it. This is great for just noodling over a backing track until an idea gels. Then it's just a matter of playing that idea until you're happy, then grabbing it.

Zenbeats isn't bad just playing, then trimming the audio to get the good part.

For MIDI, Midi Tape recorder is good but has no editing, so you'd need to export the midi to import into something else like Atom 2 or LK for editing. (That's not as hard as it sounds to do).

Atom 2 can record pretty long midi passages, but you need to set a large number of bars first. The empty clip with the bars set can be saved as a preset. It's not great for editing super long midi clips, but it'll probably get by for most purposes.

  • @TonalityApp Pianogram is thee app for this
