Doug at the Sound Test Room reviews my favorite hardware synth!
I say “my favorite” because at the moment, it’s the only hardware synthesizer I own, and will probably be the only hardware synth I’ll ever buy; the amazing and versatile Behringer Deepmind 12!
When I bought this synth, I was looking for an analog synthesizer. It had to be polyphonic, it had to have a full size keyboard with at least 37 keys, and most importantly, it had to be affordable and be within my budget which was around $500.
I knew all of the MOOGs, Sequentials, Dave Smiths, Arturias, Korgs, etc. were all way out of my price range, so searching quickly narrowed everything down to just one synth; and for another hundred bucks or so, I could get a 12 voice, polyphonic, fully analog synthesizer with a very nice full size keyboard with 49 keys!
The Behringer Deepmind 12 came with a 3 year warranty, which only solidified my purchase decision.
I also knew of Behringer’s reputation and have heard/read many a story on how they “borrow” certain designs and things like that. The Deepmind 12, many believe is Behringer’s “copycat” of Roland’s Juno 106, because it does look a lot like it, with all the sliders, but as Doug mentions, it’s so much more. One YouTuber even said “the Juno wishes it was a Deepmind 12!”
All I can say, is that I’ve never been burned by them personally. I had a Behringer acoustic amplifier years ago; never had any problems with it. They might have released products over the years that may not have been of the highest quality, true, but the Deepmind feels like it’s built like a tank! I’m actually approaching the 3 year mark soon, and all this time it’s been a marvelous synth! I’ve enjoyed every minute with it, even just using it as a midi controller for all of my iOS stuff; fantastic piece of technology all around!
Very happy to see Doug doing a full review on this!

@Edward_Alexander Thanks for posting this here.
Yes, it’s a marvellous synth, loads and loads of deep control if you want it.
Sounds very warm to me too, and the effects section is just outstanding, I can’t think of any other hardware this that has this many effects baked right in.
They do need to update their editor App, though, it would be nice to see the effects in more detail.
Although to be honest you really don’t need the editor.
Don’t let go of this one this time, Doug! It’s a really sweet synth and should provide you with many years of explorations and patch designing on it! I wouldn’t say no to one, that’s for sure! Lovely!
Yeah, I’ve never used the iOS app. It is kinda sad though that they’ve abandoned it. Reminds me, I need to check and see if the desktop version (PC) has been updated. It does come in handy for patch management. (Or it did)
