sonic logic, midi designer, or knob lab for this application?
I've searched and read a bunch of threads but I still don't know which app to get.
I have a Raster 2 guitar pedal. The online editor needs Chrome for use with MIDI. Chrome on the iPad isn't MIDI compatible. I decided to build my own MIDI editor so I can tweak the features not available on the pedal itself.
Which iPad MIDI app (Sonic Logic, Knob Lab, MIDI Designer) would be easiest to use to build this simple editor?
I need
1 knob with continuous values 0-127
2 knobs that allow me to click through 4 choices each
2 knobs that allow me to click through 23 choices each
1 on/off button
I'm leaning toward Sonic Logic or Knob Lab because MIDI Designer looks overwhelming.
What do you think?

I don't know about those, but StreamByter lets you build a simple GUI. I could whip this up in minutes. I guess you may need to send and receive MIDI SysEx messages, also easy in SB. It's attractively priced...
Alternatively, Mozaic has ready-made GUIs that you can program to meet your needs
Here's a quick StreamByter sample. It's not the prettiest GUI, but fully functional. The "Short" controls run 0-3 (could be 1-4), the "Long" run 0-22, the Knob is 0-127. You can see the script in the background. SB sends itself a SysEx message whenever a control is changed, so you can use those to trigger comms with your device. Or you could save it all up and implement a Send button to update the device. The StreamByter manual is here.
Thanks for that information! According to the Raster 2 manual, it sends and receives MIDI CCs, no SysEx messages, so that should make this easier.
I couldn't find any YouTube tutorial videos for the Sonic Logic apps. I'm going to check Streambyter and Mozaic now. I appreciate the suggestions. This is what I'm going to put together:
feedback L&R tilt- CC 21, continuous from 0-127
feedback mode- CC 106, 0-3 (four choices)
delay structure- CC 105, 0-2 (three choices)
delay range- CC 107, 0-3
delay note division- CC 108, 0-22
modulation note division- CC 109, 0-22
pitch shift L&R link- CC 114, 0-1 (on or off)
I'm not good with software in general but I think I can do this.
I tried Streambyter but my first attempt failed, I got a little lost. So I downloaded Knob Lab free.
It took no time at all to get a connection and send the MIDI data. I felt successful so I bought the IAP for 12 knobs to send CC data out to the pedal. It worked perfectly. I decided to get Sonic Logic since it's more full featured and made by the same dev as Knob Lab. Sonic Logic doesn't see my pedal no matter what I try.
So I bought an app I might never use but the iPad has saved me from having to get a laptop to run Chrome. Money in the bank. I'll stick with Knob Lab for now, it is simple but it just works.
And thanks for the help uncledave.
Loopy Pro can probably do this. It’s a great midi controller, too.
I didn't know that! I have Loopy but haven't gotten the new version. I will check that out, thanks.
