Synthmaster Two has suddenly gone “Buggy” on me

SynthMaster 2 doesn’t open in AUM anymore!! I’ve got IOS 15.2 and the latest update forAUM. Any idea someone?

Are you trying to use it as IAA (External in AUM)? I believe it lost the IAA capability when M1 Mac capability was added; the iOS 15 libraries are required to support M1 Mac, but they drop the (deprecated) IAA feature.

It works for me as Audio Unit, but not as IAA. Strangely, AUM still lists it as IAA, but it fails to load.

  • Hello,

I just tested with the latest AUM (1.4.1) and it works fine but probably it's an iOS issue, I need to update my iPad to test it further

  • edited June 2022

I’ve not used this in AUM for a while. I can confirm neither it or synthmaster one are loading for me.

I get the error ‘Audio Unit plugin invalidated’

I uninstalled and reinstalled AUM and both synthmasters. Both Still don’t work.

Both work using Drambo as the host.

Edit: For info, I’m on an iPad mini 5 running iOS 15.5

No issues here, latest versions of both AUM and SM2 AUv3 working fine iPad Air 4, iPadOS 15.5.

Can you please restart your iPad by switching off and then on? That should help resolving the "audio unit plugin invalidated" error

  • Can you please restart your iPad by switching off and then on? That should help resolving the "audio unit plugin invalidated" error

I’ve done that several times. No change I’m afraid.

I tried both in nano studio 2 as that’s the only other host I’ve got on my iPad just now.
They work fine in that as well as Drambo.

These are the only two AUs I’ve had this error in AUM with.

  • @lbiyikoglu I realise this is apparently not something that everyone is experiencing, but again, it’s happening to me with both SM1 and SM2 only.

I’ve had no validation errors with any other AUv3s in AUM.

I’ve had no issues with SM1 and SM2 in other hosts either though, so is it possible that it’s something to do with the interaction between them and AUM, @j_liljedahl ?

What is AUM looking for to ‘validate’ plugins that these aren’t doing and why is it not an issue for everyone?

Maybe this isn’t a common issue, but it sounds like at least one other person, @robklotzby , is having the same issue.

I had Synthmaster Two loaded onto two of my iPads. All of a sudden, it stopped working in AUM and AudioBus on both iPads; it just will not load in AUM and it’s name won’t even appear in AudioBus. Re-booting the iPads didn’t help.

I can use it in Standalone mode just fine on both iPads, but that’s it; in that mode the MIDI connections wouldn’t work, even using Core MIDI. Synthmaster 2 either didn’t appear in the list for MIDI connection or it’s name doesn’t show up at all.

So I re-installed it on both iPads and the same issues remain. I am running the most current iOS update of both iPads. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix these issues?

Hello, auv3 should work, but if you are trying to use IAA it will not. We had to update the engine for the new M1 ipads and since Apple removed support for IAA it will not work any longer.

Apple did not remove support for IAA!

SynthMaster One, SynthMaster Player and countless other Apps work perfectly fine with it!

You did remove from IAA from SynthMaster Two?!? 😳
Can you please add it again?

IAA support is removed with iOS 13 libraries. We continued using the old libraries but since iOS 15 these are creating problems with the new M1 ipads. So had to switch to the recent Apple libraries which do not contain IAA. SynthMaster Player and One also does not include IAA anymore.

    That's horrible news, thanks.

Strangely, SynthMaster will still be listed as IAA in all hosts that I checked:

But yes, it does not load anymore 🥶😱

So basically, each dev has to decide whether to support M1 or IAA when he builds the app. Old IAA apps will continue to run, but if/when they are updated to the current libraries, they will cease to support IAA. IAA has been deprecated for several years now, and it looks like the end is near.

I realize he said that. I just didnt understand exactly what it meant - especially for other apps. So far the deprecation hasn’t had a dramatic impact in terms of apps remaining available for sale and thus useable. I was wondering if this was a sudden turning point for owners of IAA apps and M1 iPads going forward.

So I figured it out kind of, if I disble channel pressure messages to either Synthmaster aus I no longer get stuck notes, this behaviour doesn't occur when using my launchpad directly to either Synthmasters as well so it must be an lk thing.. I'll bring it up on the lk thread ...

You need to fully maximize the window (double-tap in the title bar).

    Thanks!
In my case there is no keyboard in AUM in full window.
    How is it on yours?

    • After long search i discover it when i press the MACROS tab next to SAVE, BROWSE and MATRIX, upper right corner.
I was confused, since in stand alone mode those switches are named SETTINGS, SAVE, BROWSE and ABOUT instead.
Btw, there must be a better way to organise the scales, not everyone knows how many notes are in each scale.
For example to find the harmonic minor you need to search in the 7 tone scale but there is no melodic minor there, neither phrygian, unless i’m missing something obvious.

i guess you have to manually grow the window to its maximum size or play with the width at smaller sizes. It looks like the keyboard only displays at certain aspect ratios.

Thats odd… I have tried many times, double-tapping on the title bar and resizing the window manually, still no keyboard, as shown on this video i made.

  • Did you notice the difference here?

  • I found an image of the Synthmaster keyboard front! 😉

  • Thats odd… I have tried many times, double-tapping on the title bar and resizing the window manually, still no keyboard, as shown on this video i made.

I will check this, which iPad model are you using?
