DANGER: Approaching Maximum Musical Density, Will Robinson.

Nice musical gumbo, @Paulieworld. You inspire me to go shopping for audio snippets. I did some audio mangling of a Zappa tune (Movie' to Montana) once in Koala which makes this approach interactive.

  • @McD Pygmie Pony likey! Scuse me while I brandish my Zircon encrusted tweezers and getta cuppa cawfee.

  • That’s like three songs in one - what apps did you use for this?

@JudasZimmerman I'm feeling a bit chatty tonight, so here we go...

That's like three songs in one...

That confirms something that I sort of suspected. This track started out several months ago, and I just kept adding parts, a little bit at a time, without really focusing on the overall flow. It's a bit clumsy. I think I can do better.

What apps did you use for this one?

My main app is Cubasis 2. It does most of what I need, so I never thought about upgrading to version 3.
The next app is Audiobus 3. It's ironic that this is the "Audiobus Forum", but nobody talks about it very much.
    I can fix that.

I use Audiobus 3 all the time.
    I really like Audiobus 3... a lot.
    Audiobus 3 is far out!
    Wait... there's more!
Since I started using Audiobus 3, I have lost over 50 pounds.
Now that I'm an Audiobus 3 user, women find me irresistible.
    Call now!!!

The music itself is just a hodge podge of assorted synths and samples. I can spend hours just noodling around until I find something I like.

When I decide something is finally finished, I mix it down with Bark Filter (Tripleband) and MagicDeathEye. TripleBand is just magical. I like MagicDeathEye because it's so simple - just 2 big knobs that I can play around with.

Finally, I open the mix in AudioShare and have a look at the wave file. As long as it has a nice jagged edge with peaks approaching 0 dB and no flat spots, I'm good with it. At one time I used mastering apps but decided, why not just do it in Cubasis, the first time.

Thank you very much for listening, and for following me on Soundcloud. I have a lot more on my Bandcamp stream under my Paulieworld handle. Your comments are always welcome and greatly appreciated. Have a great evening!

  • @Paulieworld : wow, that was a trip! If it reminded me of anything at all, it was the first time I heard Prince’s startling, brilliant soundtrack album for Batman, which knocked my socks off. Not just the tracks, like Batdance, but the interstitial snippets, snatches of dialogue etc. too…

@McD : I’m sure Frank, a great pioneer of electronic audio reassembly himself via his use of the Synclavier, (I once did a telephone interview with him about exactly that) would heartily approve! :)

I think it worked great; I was just impressed. It doesn't sound overdone or anything.

As do I, fellow Audiobus aficionado! For me I mostly use it with Xequence and Aum now, which seems to be a sweet spot for certain projects. I have to admit I often start just AUM when trying out a simple idea, for basically one reason only: It has that "reload last session" button. That's a good button.

    Wait... there's more!

It... didn't have quite that effect for me?

Same here, except in Auria (and I always use TB Barricade now, for the loudness metering and stuff).

I haven't really looked into bandcamp yet; though I understand there's a bit of an exodus from Soundcloud happening (?). It's a pity, because in principle I like that site and its social features and so forth.. lots of bots in practice though, which is a bummer.

I am also a fan of Prince's music. He was a bit of a character, but extremely talented. I guess it's all just part of the act. To even be mentioned in such company is quite a compliment. I listened to the Batman album last night and it brought back great memories. Thank you for the compliment, and for following me on Soundcloud! Have a great day!

  • @JudasZimmerman I wasn't aware of the exodus from Soundcloud, but I definitely agree about the bots! I keep getting notices from "producers" that want to sign me up. I have to assume they are looking for money. I guess I can't blame them for trying. I like Bandcamp more because it's also free and there is no limit to the uploads. I also think the user interface is a bit cleaner and better looking. My page is pretty plain, but when I get the time, I can make major improvements. Soundcloud (the freebie) is just sort of a laundry list and not at all flexible in the order you present songs. Unfortunately, the Bandcamp embedded player doesn't seem to working in the forum at this time, so I post on Soundcloud. If you or anybody else can figure it out, it would be greatly appreciated. Have a good one, my friend!
