So is PSA1000 is a preamp and IR loader the power amp… What do you look for in a preamp vs power amp?. What are the sonic characteristics of each?. Been playing guitar forever and I never stopped to think about this 😳
Yes,psa 1000 is a transistor preamp and the power amp section in Nembrini's ir loader is,I think an el34 power amp.
For me,having owned a LOT of tube amps with all kinds of tubes in them,Preamp is 80-90% of what makes a guitar sound.
Tube power amps can add a little flavor,but fairly,not a crucial part of what makes a great guitar sound .
Preamp is what will bring gain,texture,dynamics and all that is needed to sound great(except playing that is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ALL ).
Power amp is there to bring all this to ATOMIC levels😂.
What makes a VOX amp sound like a vox is much more than the fact that it has El84 in it.
Same thing with Marshall or whatever amp.
My advice:Don't over think all this as it doesn't really matter😉😉.
