Jam Synth 2 Open Beta

https://testflight.apple.com/join/Xn3wmeHv

Jam Synth is back and with improved features: lower latency tracking, less glitching (mono only), AUv3, MPE and an FM synth.

It doesn't work on chords, but the tradeoff is an extremely high degree of accuracy while tracking guitar to MIDI and synth. The harmonizer allows for a multitude of polyphonic sounds to be output anyway.

The desire for it to work polyphonically is always a concern so I have started working on Jam Synth GK for users who are equipped. Check out this simple comparison with the SY-1000:

  • The first version was pretty good. What about midi out in this one?

  • Oh man! Pretty cool. Really love the first version

Yes it has MIDI out and MPE support

  • This is pretty interesting on first play, I need to dig deeper…

  • Also it will be available for desktop in AU, VST and AAX shortly.

  • I love the Mach 1 Jam Synth.
Are there any plans for the new one to be universal?

  • @dreamless ,
What about rainbows and rotary vibe?

  • Yes the new one will be universal, I just need to make a smaller interface for iPhone. It's tricky with so many knobs. I'm also going to add the rest of the FX from v1 plus a number of new ones. In addition to desktop support I'm also releasing the FX section as individual AUv3 plugins soon.

Anyone here have an SY-1000 or GP-10? Jam Synth GK will initially be released as add-on software for those devices because they can be used as audio interfaces for the GK pickup. It's ultra low latency and has insanely great tracking for a polyphonic guitar synth... almost indistinguishable from magic even in its beta form.

Do you have an email so that we can send you bug reports?
I’ve already sent a couple via Testflight.

  • Great to see you working on Jam Synth again @dreamless! 👏🏼

    Okay cool.
I really liked the original Jam Synth.
This version isn’t available in AUM at the moment only stand-alone
and are you going to make it Auv3?
and thank you for BeatMachine it was one of my first samplers on iOS.
Really good to see you back.

  • It's AUv3 right now - that's one of the main new features. Maybe you have to restart your device? New AUv3 plugins have been showing up automatically for me on iOS 14.

    Doh.
I thought it was like the original and immediately went looking in the I.A.A section.
I read the Auv3 in the description as the Auv3 effects that you’re going to release individually.
    My apologies.

  • Also it should be noted that the tracking algorithm has been more finely tuned for guitar in v2 - if you're going to experiment with other sources keep in mind that it is also tracking when a string is plucked in addition to what note it is playing. So you'll have to simulate the pluck with a click or something.

  • I’ve just played my guitar through it as Auv3 in AUM using a Zoom U-44
as input with a buffer setting of 64 Samples which is much, much faster
than the original which was at 256 in stand-alone I do believe.
Tracks really well and the overall impression is very cool.
It’s a pity that I don’t have the SY1000 or the GP-10 but as a mono guitar synth?
    Really cool.

  • Been testing since this morning, so far very good ! I do not seem to be able to find the presets......are there any ?

  • I made some presets but they didn't get copied over into the binary... I'm sorting it out now. Most of them just show off how you can program the FM synth. Like this one sounds just like a P Bass:

You can tap the numbers under the ratio and feedback knobs to type in precise values.

  • Awesome can’t wait to try this beta.

Can you explain what you mean by add-on software?

I have a SY-1000 but I'm using a heptaphonic violin pickup from Cantini.

The sy-1000 can be used as an audio interface for whatever pickup you have plugged into it. Jam Synth GK runs on macOS and Windows and its output is routed to your DAW. What pitches is your violin tuned to? It could likely be mapped to the first 4 strings of the synth.

    I meant like this:

Are your strings in the same range as the first 5 guitar strings?

  • edited February 2022

  • It looks like it doesn't quite line up but it doesn't matter anyway because I can change the limits to any arbitrary range. It would easily work with other stringed instruments that are fitted with hex pickups like the ones from cycfi research.
