Midi sequencer for hardware 303’s
I have two analog MAM MB 33 boxes that make lovely 303 sounds. I recently sold the Keystep Pro (Everythings got to go), and instead of getting stuck with new hardware controllers (looking at SQ 64 for them) i want to explore if iOS might be the perfect sequencing plattform!
Should I just load up Brambos Rozetatta baseline, do you reckon there are more sequencers that work well with 303’s?
It would be nice to use a sequencer where it’s possible to put together longer melody changes and stuff.
What ideas do you has for me?
(:

I have owned a Terratec Sine MB33 mk2, I guess that is the same as the MAM. Sold it because all had to go :-)
I have used Gnome midi sequencer, years ago, on an Ipad Air2, to sequence my gear. I am not sure the timing was very tight with that setup. But we are now years later.
If you want to enter accent and glide for 303 style music, I think you have to do this manually.
Gnome doesn't show up inside AUM, if you want to use Gnome together with AUM, you need synchronization and start/stop between the apps. Then I guess it is better to search further, maybe LK or Atomic Piano Roll.
And maybe Pure Acid is a good way to sequence external 303 synths. It has an automatic pattern creator, very nice feature.
Probably down to individual cases... most sequencers will do, while some are tailored for such use... I stick with Rozeta because most of the time it offers the best pixel to feature ratio... I was recently tempted by the 4P Euclidean seq, then fired up Rhythm and the feeling quickly faded away for the same reason. For most typical cases they cover my needs, if I need more sophisticated features I usually reach for Drambo.
I’ve been using Rosetta Bassline a lot recently (in decidedly non-acid ways), so I have to recommend getting busy with that if you have it already.
512 steps per instance is a lot of melody!
Drambo!
+1 rozeta bassline.
Pure acid if you want something more Roland-ey
There is a dedicated sequencer (or maybe a pattern maker) for td-3, but its kind of pricey. For that price I would stick to Rozeta, Pure Acid and whatnot.
And im not sure it would work with your gear
But besides Rozeta, i'm sure Quantum, Xequence, Genome are fun pairings
Gonna try sequencing some 303 bassline with them here (to different gear)
Nother rec for Rozeta Bassline. I also like Riffer for that sort of thing.
Quantum. At least if you don’t need an AUv3 sequencer. I think it is the most complete one you can get on iOS (out of the box).
So Rozeta Bassline works with hardware? I’m going to give it a try for sure, thanks guys, youre great. I’ll have a look at quantum too. If I remember correctly there is no chaining patterns in Rozeta.
Probably I could do it directly from Xequence, I love that thing!
I’ll be back if I have latency issues(:
Oh yes, there is... top right... simple yet powerful
Pure Acid is the best.
It can even record midi sequences and randomize their slides, accents etc.
It's important to understand what your 303's need to produce slides. Rozeta produces slides by overlapping the notes slightly. This is because that's what Troublemaker recognizes to produce a slide. If your 303 hardware works that way then you're good, but if not, then another sequencer that can will be needed.
[edit] nvm, good to go...
As a side note: As far as I know, most sequencers or apps that has some 303 basses use the overlapping notes to produce slide.
Which makes sense
Pure Acid. I use it on all my synths. I don’t even use my sequencer in my td-303 anymore cos Pure Acid just owns everything
So using Pure Acid to control hardware, for chizzle?
How do I set it up in AUM, if you will allow me to be a retard?
Does it nicht bother you that if you want to change patterns all the time you have to mark each individual pattern in your sequencer?
Maybe that process will move faster for me with practice.
My dream sequencer for hardware 303’s uses keys for plonking in melodies but its handy enough through PA’s system.
A problem using pure acid with Xequence is you have to mark each individual pattern for playback instead of being able to store/link 3-4 different chains.
That would be a pretty sweet function for me, what do you think?
