Ampify Groovebox output MIDI to Ableton
I’m able to output a project from Ampify Groovebox and email it to myself as a Ableton session zip file to my computer. When I open the project, should I be able to see the MIDI notes on the keyboard roll in Ableton? Right now I see nothing, and I don’t get any sounds when I play the Ableton session. Is another step required to actually get this as a usable session in Ableton?

You should get the midi file/session as far as I can remember… BRB.
Edit.. no special procedure, but just load the file..
maybe just keep trying..
I can confirm that there doesn’t seem to be any MIDI in the exported projects.
All you need to do is select MIDI and look at it in session view. They are midi clips that you can trigger and record in arrangement view. I use that all of the time.
Ok so just to make sure. I can export only midi as an Ableton session, load that into Ableton, then assign a new instrument that will play the notes that I recorded in Groovebox? I’ll try again but last time I didn’t see any notes anywhere in Ableton.
Yep, that is correct. Make sure to check it in session view for clips!
Here’s a short video I did demonstrating the process. Hope it helps.
Thanks everyone. I don’t know why I didn’t see it the first time but when I opened the project again there it was, all the MIDI notes from the imported project.
Would be nice if it could just do straight up MiDi export..
it compliments Logic so well.. for building/starting projects
Logic project made from GrooveBox’s exported Midi.als (Ableton export).. Converted to Pattern regions in Logic… Dope..
Edit.. and the audio loops are great too…

Thanks I saw it this morning after a search.. but seems you have to jump through hoops to do it.. This kills the creative spirit.. Amplify needs to update this gem to Auv3 or do a straight Midi-Out..
I'd love to see MIDI export in Groovebox but I believe their development focus is on Launchpad for the foreseeable future.
Regarding the Pythonscript, once it's set up its just a simple tap after exporting from Groovebox.
No hassle at all, I use it all the time. I certainly appreciate the effort that the good Dr, MrBlaschke, did in getting that to work.
Ok.. will try is when I have the time… code is intimidating… Thanks.
the beautiful thing for me about Groovebox and the rest of the apps that export .als is that Bitwig opens these projects, as audio, midi, or both. I have a folder on my ipad called Bitwig sketch:
not all of them export midi with the samples, but all of them are pretty cool sketch pads.
