AUV3push or FAC maxime or TB barricade ?
looking for a good master peak limiter, which one is the best ?
Comments
Barricade is the best.
Great clipping harmonics without aliasing artifacts, True peak, LUFS metering and also includes a handy compressor.
I wouldn’t agree that Barricade is ‘best’ as FAC Maxime and TB Barricade each excels in different ways. I wouldn’t be without either. Can’t comment on AUV3push as I don’t own it.
Depends what you're looking for, FAC Maxima is more of an old-school maximiser, whereas Barricade can do LUFS metering which would be suitable for streaming masters. Barricade would certainly be my choice.
I’m using a combination of TB Equalizer, TB Compressor and/or TB Barricade on nearly every project now. All great for shaping the tracks in a mix.
Dude’s right. I throw some TB Enhancer in there too and it sounds like I know what I’m doing.
And if we do it with a concerned look on our face it always looks more impressive.
Consider me concerned…
It’s not helping 😭
😉🤪
Haha
A sprinkle of TB:Sibalance and a tablespoon of TB:ReelBus to complete the recipe.
Toneboosters apps are essential.
Haven’t tried any of the Kymatica effects yet (though I’m about to as they seem to sound great) but I swear by FAC and TB stuff. I use one of the 2 devs apps on nearly every track I make. It’s a hard choice between them but I do find myself reaching for Barricade a bit more often. Also Jens Guell has a cheap limiter that I also find useful ($1.99). And there’s also the Amazing Noises one that I haven’t tried yet, though I believe it’s IAA only.
To speak of the reasons why you might want both FAC Maximiser and TB Barricade. FAC Maximiser is great for smashing drums (I only ever use it on percussive tasks), it was almost designed for that very purpose and TB Barricade is great for saturating instrumentation (best at more subtle saturation).
But I wouldn't use either as a master-buss peak limiter. For that I'd definitely go with Fabfilter Pro-L, it's in a different league altogether, and has great oversampling options.
And back on thickening saturator's Fabfilter Saturn has so many wonderful flavours of saturation that can be used both at the subtle and at the ear-bleeding end of things. It yet again has class-leading over-sampling options.
Managing track perceived loudness is a mix of saturation on individual tracks/group busses and clean limiting on the master-buss. You'll end up with tracks that easily conform to streaming service LUFS's guidelines but that also punch above their weight.
The Fabfilter plugin range are more expensive than either FAC Maximiser or TB Barricade, but they're worth every last cent, and are a bargain when compared to their desktop twins.
Ddmf also have one but don’t know how it compares, think it’s fairly cheap.
$10 "NoLimits AU Limiter by DDMF"
Features
I don’t think this version is out on iOS yet.
Yes, was referring to the old one. It’s the only limiter I have so not sure how it stands up. Been thinking about Barricade (phone only).
