Great Sony wireless buds offer from Amazon (UK)
The Sony WF-1000XM3 was the What Hi-Fi? Awards 2020 winner and in performance, they're very close to the current Bluetooth award winner - the Sony WF-1000XM4.
But price-wise the Sony WF-1000XM3 can be purchased for £97 (at launch they were £220), whereas the Sony WF-1000XM4 are currently selling for approx £200.
The main difference is that the Sony WF-1000XM4 offers LDAP lossless Bluetooth but this only works with certain high-end Android devices (mainly Sony's own phones). I already own the Sony WF-1000XM4's and use them in the house via a FiiO BTA30 Pro Hi-Res Bluetooth Transmitter/Receiver TX/RX with LDAC Support
But I've just purchased a pair of the Sony WF-1000XM3's as these still outperform the most recent AirPods and Airpod Pro's (both of which cost significantly more).

What's the latency?
The Sony WF-1000XM4 latency is really good (although I don't generally use Bluetooth buds for music production apart from when I'm travelling, and then I generally stick to step sequencing). My pair of Sony WF-1000XM3's arrive tomorrow so I'll let you know their latency once they're charged and set up.
The Sony WF-1000X4's are the best Bluetooth buds I've had. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD660s for audio production, which are open-back. Because of their open-back design, I first feed the output from my Saffire audio interface, my iPad Pro interface, into a USB-C M-Audio 192|8 and monitor via Sienna Guru (hosted in Ableton in my laptop). I've set up Sienna Guru so it closely resembles my Munroe Eggs in an acoustically treated space that I use for mastering (in my loft).
I like to sense check my masters with decent Bluetooth buds, as these days folk are mainly listening via earbuds or smart speakers. My master's primary goal is decent club sound system performance, but this needs to be balanced with streaming service needs. Luckily, if you've made your mix respond well in mono, you solve smart speaker and club sound system needs in one hit.
Having said all that, I purchased both my Sony WF-1000XM3's and Sony WF-1000XM4's mainly for leisure/pleasure/workouts etc. The fact I can use them for audio production is a secondary bonus.
Cool, thanks! I'm really curious
The latency isn't quite as good as with the Sony WF-1000X4's so you wouldn't want to play live, but it isn't bad either. As mentioned earlier, if I'm on a train or suchlike, I tend to be step sequencing. The latency is more than good enough for synth programming.
The sound quality, on the other hand, is superb. When in use with an iOS device, I think they sound just as good as the Sony WF-1000X4's, and the noise cancelling is excellent too. Lossless via LDAP is where the audio quality bumps up with the Sony WF-1000X4's, but Apple mobile devices can't do lossless wirelessly.
Thanks @jonmoore, that's great information!
Indeed, when step sequencing, latency doesn't matter much.
Have you had the chance to compare their sound with any wireless Apple earplugs?
Yes. The Sony's are far superior to Airpod 3's and Airpod Pro's. But don't take my word for it. Check out a range of 3rd party reviews. The WF-1000X3's are exceptionally good value for money.
They are both great ear buds
Sound quality is amazing
But they aren’t very discreet
I have the M3’s but mainly wear them at home
And air pod pros for the street
Also £100 is a great price
Luckily, I have long hair (obscures the earbuds) and look like a bit of a bruiser (when in fact, I'm a liberal softie), so the black and gold stylings of the Sony kit isn't a worry.
