Is it possible to sell applications or completely transfer the account?

I sold my iPad and switched completely to a laptop. There are many applications left in my account. Is it possible to sell them?

  • Legally no. I also doubt anyone would pay significantly more for the device (with the apps) even if you keep them on device (which you can do).

  • Not ‘legally’ no.

  • I think you could sell your Apple ID. Clean up the account, migrate your devices to a new Apple ID, remove your payment, etc. then change the email to the buyer‘s email. Then the buyer turns on family sharing and enjoys most of the apps with the existing Apple ID. I never did that but theoretically it should work.

I think this is going to have some potential issues with 2FA and I really doubt if it is allowed for in the terms of your agreement with Apple. Just on the security side, you need to do a complete wipe and reset of any device you sell.

You can add a phone number of the buyer to the 2FA settings as one of the last steps. I think it’s true that this is not covered by Apple’s terms but if it works, who cares. BTW… I never really thought about that but it’s really a shame you can’t transfer licenses. One more reason why I would never buy an iOS DAW for 400 bucks. In the EU they try to enforce the „right to repair“ for Apple customers but what about a right to transfer your licenses? I think its even more important. Most of my software outlived my device‘s lifetime.

While I don't think you should be able to sell an account, I do agree that you should be able to sell your license to software on any platform. But, I can see why companies don't allow for this. It's already hard enough for them to deal with piracy. I don't think it will change anyway given that we can't actually buy the software on any platform. We only get to buy a license to use it.

Accurate. One does not “own” the software. One pays for a limited license to use it.
