Freezes and problems loading samples in Audio Damage's Quanta
Anyone else here having problems loading samples in Quanta? I'm experiencing freezes and crashes with the app whenever I try to load my own samples. iOS 15.3.1.
Comments
Standalone, or in a host, if so which host?
Both really, tried it in Aum, Cubasis and standalone, same things keep happening.
It freezes whenever I click the floppy-icon to load a sample
Let me test for you.
I’m on iOS 15.3 and it worked in standalone. It opened the files app, loaded a sample and I played it. Maybe it’s a 15.3.1 thing. Did you try turn off/ turn on device, or even… backup presets, delete app and reinstall. I’d try the first one for sure, but maybe hold off on the second until you get some more feedback. But it did work for me on iOS 15.3. Good luck
Quanta in iOS always crashes when I load in patches, but they actually do load so when I restart the app they are there.
That’s true when loading patch banks. I thought they were trying to load a sample and create a patch, but maybe I’m mistaken.
Ah. If so, my misunderstanding.
The problem is loading samples to make a patch. Thanks for the input guys, I've tried a couple of things (reinstalling is one), unfortunately the problem is still there. I'm beginning to wonder if some settings on the iPad might interfere with the interface in Quanta or Quanta's access to the file system.
Registered just to say that I'm having the same issue. Standalone or as a plugin, if I click he file load icon, the app just freezes. However, I have figured out an annoying little workaround: Click the file icon, minimize the app, then open it again and the file menu will appear. Select a file, minimize the app, open it again and the file will load. Pain in the ass, but it works.
Hopefully it eventually gets fixed. Contacted customer support and got no response.
Just guessing here, but you might try enabling access to iCloud Drive for the app. It's in Settings, your Apple ID at the top, then iCloud. Scroll down to the list of apps and enable Quanta. You don't need to change where it actually stores data, just enable iCloud access. Some older apps use this permission to allow access to the Files app, because Files was formerly iCloud Drive.
I think I‘m seeing the same issue.
Hitting the ‚floppy’ button to load a sample freezes the app.
When I switch out to another app and in again, I see the file dialog, but when I select a (.wav in my case) file, nothing happens. The ‚cancel‘ button does not work either.
I tried changing the iCloud setting back and forth and reinstalling the app, without success so far. Fwiw, I’m on iOS 15.5.
Did any of you solve this somehow?
I am still having issues in iPad OS 15.6.1.
I am about to give up, tbh. I like Quanta and own a license for the windows version, too, but it is not usable on my iPad (new Pro 12.9 inch with M1).
I missed the chance to welcome you, I know it’s been 6 months but welcome.
On to the matter at hand…
I’m not sure what the best way to reach AD is but here is their support email from their web site. Probably worth a shot.

Quanta is probably done - seeing as how Quanta2 is coming soon
It works fine for me. I am using the same os. iPad gen 6.
I’m not sure if I’m replicating the exact process, but I just ran a test that turned into a sound design sesh. I opened Quanta in standalone on iPad 6 iOS 15.6.1. No files were loaded, blank window, empty template. I tapped the floppy disc in bottom left of the granular window and the files app came up in a pop up window. I searched and selected a file from audioshare, (via the files app) a bass one shot, loaded it up, and it worked. I then unintentionally spent 20 mins making and saving a new patch.
Are people having trouble simply loading that original audio file in Quanta?
I think @ConatusPrinciple might be on to something with his comment about something in iCloud settings, don’t know for sure though.
Try going into quanta settings as well to possibly enable it to use the network or what have you…

I get an issue where the file name box and areas around it for saving are messed up, too. I think there might be bug related to the vector graphics. I own quite a few licenses for AD’s desktop apps, but only Axon 2 and Quanta for iOS. I guess I am staying away from them on iOS for a while.
I made a sound similar to the one I was trying to make using Quanta by using FRMS, and it took only two layers (one for the granular part and one for the VA oscillator part).
💔
Yeah...
Having just seen that Quanta is on sale, I’ve purchased it to find that I’m having the same problem as described here. The ‘minimize’ workaround does work but I’m also finding that tapping on the granular playback direction causes the app to freeze as well.
I was really hoping that the recent Quanta update would have fixed this - maybe iPad OS 16 has immediately broken it again? Have contacted the developer. Is it working for others - any ideas of anything I might have set up wrong? Thanks.
nope, same sheit here. after last update i am not able to load own samples in auv3 mode, freezes every time. Hope they fix it soon

Well, at least I’m not alone. Thanks.
Update to my previous post regarding Quanta Granular Synth sample loading problems.
Good news. I’ve heard back from the developer: It is an iPad OS 16 related problem. He’s working on a fix but can’t be sure when it will arrive.
just saw on tweeter that Chris has submitted an update for Quanta to apple. So soon. He also said something in ios 16 messed up all his apps, so he's going to have to fix each one - and will take time to get them all sorted.
Update out!
Yup yup.
