Suggester companion app ChordShapes

Is anyone using the full unlock of this app?

When you long press on a chord in a Suggester arrangement the is an option to “Show Guitar Chord Diagram” which opens ChordShapes app.

Curious if anyone uses this, I couldn’t find much in a search here. I’ve been writing a lot of chord progressions in Suggester, practicing voice leading in weird scales like Altered Dominant and it would be pretty nice if I could click and see a bunch of guitar chord diagrams with inversions. The free/locked version just shows 1 chord…

Thanks 🙏

  • Longtime suggester user, did not notice this , would have been nice to know what hidden material consists of

    Definitely trying this out

  • I haven't bought ChordShapes but I have a question too.

I have a suggester progression that is playing back the notes in an arpeggio (broken chord using quarter notes) and the others do NOT. They play a block chord. I cannot find the feature that switched this progression to broken chords. It's not a feature mentioned in the manual (such as it is... it's more of a poster) or in the application description or marketing materials. It's driving me a bit wacky trying to find the setting or option that made this change.

On the main page, at the bottom of Chords pallet section, click the word Arpeggiate.
Check mark = arpeggio, no check mark = block chord.

Thank you. It was a portrait vs landscape issue.

On my iPhone I'm using portrait and this "arpeggiate" selector is not displayed until I turn the phone sideways. I would have had the same problem trying to change the default internal instrument.

I only figured it out by thinking... I might have created this progression on my iPad and it's UI looks like (turns phone sideways) this. I spent a good hour in bed trying to turn off the damn arpeggio.

I installed ChordShapes and it pops up to display any type of chord I have in a Suggester Progression.

The 2 apps do NOT share access to "Song Files" so it appears you must re-enter a chord progression between the 2 apps. Hopefully, I'm wrong but we could ping the developer to see if this is possible or on the "To Do" list. I showed him my workaround for splitting the MIDI Chord Output out across MIDI channels and he said he'd add it to the list.

Sharing files might be limited by Apple's security policies for apps... but AudioShare does it with AUM.

Yes, I think it is important (read mandatory) to have the possibility to send a song from Suggester to ChordShapes

  • I emailed the developer to get his input.

Thanks. By the way, ChordShapes is really good by itself and probably one of the most complete guitar chords dictionary on ios.
It is just that I have a lot of chords progressions on Suggester and would be more than happy to have the guitar chords description

    First thoughts

-Cant add tunings later for custom chords
-can’t edit custom chords AFTER adding them. No option .this should be a main feature
-chords rearranging (too sensitive) and pasting section is not smooth.
After I click copy , when I tap on empty space ideally paste should show , else, every time you need to rearrange , the way it’s currently set up
-undo function would be great . Very easy to delete sections (or least) a pop up should be there
-I feel the app could have benefitted with , a NOTE Reverse lookup input section and give chord shape and name suggestions . Like some other apps do it … . Example I input , the notes A, F,G, I want to know possible shapes I can use
…Else reverse lookup and chord sheet area on app overlaps

    • library is ok , nothing many other apps cant do

    now The Good bit

the custom input section on fretboard is killer and the neat PDF output sheet
Here is a quick screen grab

Thank you for posting that. I just unlocked based on your findings. Looks like it will do what I hoped it would.
