iPad stuck on Apple logo startup screen

My old iPad Air 2 just got stuck on the apple logo screen during a hard reboot.
Seems my only option is to reset it, losing all the data.

Anybody know of another option?

  • How long have you let it stay on the with the Apple Logo?
Considering it's an older device leave it on for 15+ minutes and then check...

I've got an Air 2 as well and when it was 'almost full' it sometimes took ages (sometimes +20 minutes) to boot after hard reboot.

If you have a computer to hook it up to wait until it pops up there and do a sync/back-up.
That procedure also 'cleans up slack' that may slow down the startup...

So with the older devices a bit of patience is needed :sunglasses:

  • Also, if you're on a Mac you can use the Console.app to follow the boot procedure and see where it 'hangs'...

  • Will try those suggestions.
    Thank you @Samu ❤️

  • One of the iPads at my dojo had the same issue, and it took forever to load. The issue was zero space, but once it eventually booted up (after about 45 minutes I think) deleting some apps and other crap solved the issue. I think it was determined that the Pandora app was caching all the songs to memory and it slowly took it to capacity.

  • You can put it in recovery mode and try to update rather than restore. Otherwise you will probably need to erase it. You can also contact data recovery services before you erase it, but that’s going to be expensive. You can restore any backups of course after you erase it.
