Apps that store their samples in the auv3 instance
So far I’ve found Koala, Loopy Pro and Hammerhead do this.
It means you can load them into AUM, add whatever samples you like, and everything is stored in the AUM session.
Airdrop it to another device and it all works, without having to share the individual presets manually.
Are there any more apps that do this?

Oh, good to know! Thanks.
I tested FRMS, and that one doesn’t (@sinosoidal any chance? 😘). Do any of the granulars? Need to test spacecraft.
@ElliottGarage this would be a huge improvement for segments / pulse imo.
4P multitrack Recorder
4P neon
Enso if you save it, and select save sample with preset.
sEGments
SpaceCraft and Tardigrain do
Edit: Enso does too
Edit 2: Drambo as AU (Flexi sampler, for instance) does too
Are you sure segments does? I think you still have to airdrop the preset in segments as well as the AUM preset?
Edit: Yep, just tested segments and it doesn’t do it. You have to save as a preset in segments and airdrop that separately.
I think 4P MT recorder actually creates files for you and stores them on disk. If you delete your instance, you'll still be able to access them. It's not a feature I much enjoy (same for chameleon)
I would love a simple chromatic sampler (think old school) that would record to the AUv3 instance. I use koala for the moment for this with a single instrument
Just tested these.
Tardigrain works! Enso works!
Spacecraft doesn’t. It went back to the default sample on the airdropped version.
Drambo said it couldn’t find the sample.
I've just double checked with the latest official Drambo hosted in AUM.
Loading the saved AUM project restored the recorded samples perfectly, even without saving anything inside the Drambo AUv3.
Ah, I imported a file into the library in my test. Maybe if you record the sample within Drambo it’s handled differently.
Incidentally, Drambo has an iCloud folder in the library that has nothing to do with iCloud. I brought this up on the Drambo forum/Facebook group (can’t remember which) and it’s being addressed in a future version.
I assume most people use one device for all their music making and that’s why file portability doesn’t come up much. It’ll get a lot more relevant when we start throwing macOS into the mix.
Hmmm... That should work just as well because the Drambo standalone and the AUv3 share the same files.
If you don't mind to send me a few more details of the issue I'd be happy to double check and report in case it's something to fix.
Thanks!
To reproduce:
Ah, I understand.
I wouldn't have expected that to work with AirDrop because implementing this feature would certainly duplicate the storage space for the same file because it's re-created as an AUv3 preset rather than just copying it on file system level.
Is that what you want?
Edit: It would also mean that when using a 300MB sampled instrument, the preset would occupy another 300MB on your device.
For some apps and purposes it’s probably not that ideal (eg audiolayer!). But koala does it and it works really well there. Not sure if it makes sense in Drambo, possibly not, and an iCloud synced sample library would do the job.
I also don’t mind a project file being 300mb tbh if that 300mb is samples or audio relevant to the song. If I’m using 300mb of samples then it’s gotta be stored somewhere.
I just tried it again in NS2 and it does not seem to support saving samples with the NS2 project like Koala does.
When I think about it, it would make sense to have a setting inside the AUv3 wheter to include samples when saving the plugin state.
I think 4p multitrack uses this audio pool thingy so that audio can be used between instances. I would probably do it a different way like allowing you to copy and paste the audio like loopy pro does, but I’m not the dev 😉
Drambo… sampler..
I just double checked segments and it did save the sample loaded into the app in AUM. I did not save the preset. Are you on iOS 15.3.1?
Yep! Hmm. Did you airdrop the AUM preset from one device to another?
Drambo does the same but does 4p Multitrack transmit the audio pool via Airdrop when sharing the AUM project?
Not sure, I don’t really use it
Another way to check this would be to load a sample in and then see the size of the saved AUM project file…
Good shout! This session has a 950k sample loaded into segments:
Nope. I just saved an AUM preset in AUM folder. Cleared out everything, closed app. Waited 5 minutes and opened it up and it worked fine, right were segemets were cut, same sample. The sample I used was stored locally in audioshare, if that makes any difference.
That’s a different story, haven’t tried that…is that what you were looking to do?
Edit. Lol my bad, I just reread your original comment. Maybe if you had the sample in audioshare on your second device it might recognize it. Otherwise I guess you have to save the preset in sEGments, then air drop.
Thanks for looking into it!
I reckon sEGments is a perfect candidate for save in auv3 - maybe @ElliottGarage could look into it if you think it’s worth it.
Even with loopy/koala etc sEGments always lives on in my workflow.
I tried. Lol. Yea, that would be a cool feature I sometimes use/work on a second device so that could be useful.
FRMS saves the audio samples loaded into layers within the host project.
Oh maybe my test was false. I added FRMS to a new aum project, set the preset to default, loaded in a sample, saved the aum project, airdropped it to my other device, loaded it and the sample didn’t seem to be there.
Are we on the same page? If so I’ll test it again.
