Prepared Piano/Irregular Techniques App?
Hello all,
I'm looking to get some irregular piano sounds from my iPad. I've got the regular apps (Pure Piano, Ravenscroft, Ivory) which I use for the normal stuff, but I'm looking for ways to get some more irregular sounds. A band I play with is preparing to play "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars" so specifically the sort of noise you'd get if you were to run your fingers along the strings of an acoustic piano.

Is there anything out there that people are aware of? I'm guessing if there is it'd be more like a sample being triggered rather than a specific app that allows that kind of piano control. Anyway, any knowledge much appreciated!

You have the right idea...
Find the kinds of piano sounds you want on an existing recording like:
Chop out specific sounds you want to use.
Loud those short audio wave files into a suitable sampler:
AudioLayer
Chamleon
Koala
And trigger them with notes on the extreme ends of your MIDI controller while the bulk of the notes get routed to Pure Piano or the like. A MIDI splitter that routes notes into 2 channels would do the trick.

Electric by Apesoft can do a wide variety of piano and pianotype sounds. It has many parameters and several fx available to adjust, giving one the ability to create some pretty interesting sounds. I’m a big fan of this app.
@Poppadocrock its one of my most favorites ever
If you buy it at the right time, ie when priced sensibly, Retro Piano is pretty good for weirded up piano sounds.
BitKlavier is the closest fit.
Is it algorithmic in its preparation? I take it it’s not AU?
As mentioned by Tickletiger, the John Cage prepared piano app is very nice.

I wrote to the dev a while ago and he told me that he was thinking in upgrading the app so it could support AUV3.
Free version of John Cage app (didn't try it):

Pianobook might have something similar to what you're after, worth a look.
Thanks guys, I'll have a look at all of these. I should probably have mentioned but I'd need the app to be Auv3 ideally as it'll be used as a channel within AUM. That being said, I suppose if the sound is great I can just sample it and trigger in Koala etc. Will report back with my best findings!
+1
There are really plenty of interesting atypical piano libraries on pianobook and a lot of those are available for decent sampler. It can be time consuming but there are some gems to be found.
1.5 GB? Oof.
FYI, bitklavier shows up as AUV3 in AUM. You can play the basic piano preset, but the menus, presets, etc are inoperable. Waiting for an update….
+1. Outstanding stuff.
I think I’ll drop the $.99 and make some samples today 😉
