My turn in the audience. Some appreciation for my fellow creators

I've been in a bit of a creative lull this past month. My inner critic has become an impossible to please curmudgeon. Normally I would find this distressing but I've been trying to reframe it as "my turn in the audience" and I have to say I have been surprised and delighted by the sheer amount of quality content being created by members old and new . I can't always find the right words to leave a comment and my musical tastes are admittedly too narrow (working on that) but I always appreciate the time and effort people put into making the music and videos posted here. Thank you all for making "my turn in the audience" enjoyable and inspiring.

  • +1! I've been feeling the exact same way lately.

Also, I guess I started to read this forum mostly for the tech and the apps, and saw the Creations mostly as celebrations of success, or inspiration to that end. But I've sort of gotten satisfied with the app hoarding lately, and have gradually been listening to the music posted much more closely. And it is good. It's what I mostly listen to, these days.

Commenting is hard, but I try. Thanks to all who post!

  • Where else can you ask a Creator, "How did you do that?" and get a considered reply that can give you inspiration to learn new concepts and try new approaches. It also deconstructs our fixed views on what "Good music" is.

Creations as celebrations of success. I like that point of view. When I think of creating as a task it can become a chore. I'm totally stealing that.

Great point. The interchange of ideas and generous help here makes this place incredible. I'm grateful that the majority of people here are the kind of people I would gladly have as friends in the "real world". I have definitely expanded my music palate since joining and I expect that to continue.

  • I see posting a track as the last step in my workflow. Creation-publish-post. Wonderfully, none of these three were possible (well, I could create on the piano, but it had gotten boring) until I serendipitously discovered ABF four years ago. SoundCloud and BandCamp completed the equation,

I wonder when I, too, will become audience only. I always realize the latest track might be my last… but it hasn’t happened yet. I must say, though, that personal and global circumstances are trying to beat me into that state. Sadly, I know that too many of us feel similarly these days.

Your music is something I always look forward to when I visit. I certainly hope your last track is many years away. I would agree, the world has gotten crazier, harder and crueler these last few years. I've heard it's said, "this too shall pass". A friend told me, "this too needs to hurry up". I hate to hear of any personal troubles for you and I hope whatever burdens you bear can be lifted from you. You are one of the kind people that make this forum such an incredible place to visit.

I agree with both of you here. I know I'm lax at showing the appreciation that I feel for everyone's efforts. I especially like to see which apps and how people are using them. It's always a little disappointing when someone posts an interesting piece and I can't tell how they did it or what they were using.
