Is Poly 2 multichannel midi in AUM?
Hi, I can't use Poly 2 multichannel in AUM, I bought the pro version. Poly 2 is set to send sequence 1 to channel 1, sequence 2 to channel 2, etc. but there is only one global midi output in AUM. I succeed with Zoa though. Maybe I forget how to do this in AUM, can someone help me?
Comments
It is multichannel in the MIDI sense. It doesn't have multiple outputs. In AUM, send the output to each synth. AUM lets you filter the MIDI so only the channel of interest gets through.
In AUM connect Poly to AUM virtual Midi, or Poly Virtual Midi, then once you have a few synths loaded in audio channels, select the hamburger menu next to each synth icon, scroll down and turn off all midi channels, then simply turn on the midi channel you want to use for that particular synth. Repeat for other synths, so they only receive midi on one specific channel. So the synth in slot one will only receive from channel 1 and so on.
Thank you for your answers, I feel like I was not clear... I would like, with the same Poly 2 session, to send track 1 to midi channel 1, track 2 to midi channel 2, track 3 to midi channel 3, etc
I think your question has actually been answered. Poly 2 only has one MIDI output (port actually), but it can send data on 16 different MIDI channels over that single output. The MIDI channel is just a number inside every MIDI message, not a separate connection. So, you send the same MIDI stream to all your synths, and use AUM's MIDI filtering to select data on one MIDI channel for each app. You configure this from the hamburger menu that appears beside each audio source, or using the snake icon in the top bar when an AUv3 is open.
Thanks for clarifying.
Hi,
I think I actually have a routing problem in ableton. Can you tell me how to configure Ableton?
I'm using 1 midi track with the "external instrument" plugin to receive midi from the ipad and then send midi to hardware modular synths.
Here is my configuration in Ableton
Midi from: Ipad
Monitor: Auto
In Ext Instruments:
Midi to: DOREMIDI (that the name of my midi interface)
first: I see that it sometimes works by putting the monitor IN instead of AUTO…
Do I have to make several tracks for it to work? Sorry for these newbie questions, I'm really lost...
How are you sending the MIDI from Poly 2 to the computer: IDAM, Bluetooth, hardware interface, etc.?
Does it reach Ableton?
Does it work if you use a built-in Ableton instrument, instead of routing to hardware?
Could you just send the MIDI from iPad to hardware, and record the audio in Ableton?
Answering these will help clarify where the problem lies.
MIDI from Poly2 : IDAM
Yes it reach Ableton
Yes it works with built in instruments
I can't send MIDI from ipad to hadware as I don't have yet a midi interface like the iRig midi 2.
Meanwhile I found a solution that works more or less, without knowing if it's the right method, I'm attaching a screenshot for you to see more clearly.
So for track 1, "DOREMIDI" is set to channel 1, track 2 to channel 2, etc.
Let me just remind you that you cannot use any USB gear on the iPad when it is connected by IDAM. The IDAM connection requires that the iPad act as a USB slave, while it has to be a host to connect USB peripherals.
