Simple midi sequencer to unite other sequencers on AUM (like gadget)

So my friend introduced me to gadget. like the ease of sequencing in that clip-based format, but of course went on here and had to get AUM, fugue machine, poly2, drambo, and more. I love the seemingly limitless possibilities of using AUM to mix these apps, which open up the possibilities for non musicians like me. So far, I am having a blast but struggling to finish songs on AUM.

Went to patch storage and beginning to grasp what drambo can do, but prefer sequencing midi on a piano roll grid more like gadget, don’t want a full-fledged daw, musically, i want to make ambient looping music but also more upbeat, instrumental dance music. my goal is to make an ep for my best friend who died two years ago, just rough mixes on Aum. That is more than enough for me right now.

Looking for 1-2 sequencers out of atom2, lk matrix, and helium to help me unite the others and actually construct songs without a hardware controller, fancy daw, or elaborate midi messaging, mostly using cheap synths and fx on AUM. Gadget is intuitive for me. I have read most everything on here about those apps, enough to know the correct answer is buy all 3 but I am broke and want to also get sunvox, tonality, and kq Dixie without further jeopardizing my marriage.

Is Victor Porof likely to return to care for atom2? Might a helium lk combo suffice for my relatively simple needs? Which combo would be most simple, stable, and fun for a clueless yet determined non-musician who feels comfortable in gadget. I am using an iPad 6 and an arturia key step. Just upgraded to 15.3.1 iOS operating system. That is it I think. I appreciate any advice. I don’t know what I am doing. This stuff is so amazing it hurts my head. Just discovered TestFlight on here. So cool. thank you for all the brilliant and patient expertise.

  • Hey! If you check my post history, I made this exact post with lots of replies, so that would probably be helpful for you!

I ended up going with LK because of the clip launching but there are pages of opinions on there

  • Got it. My bad for the redundancy. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

  • A piano roll is coming toDrambo

If you want to finish songs, then it might be a good idea to think about using a more linear timeline based sequencer. Atom 2, LK, etc. are great, and what I usually use for noodling around because of their immediacy. But ... they actually end up working against finishing a structured composition for me. I end up making a shed load of loops and then messing around with them for hours and hours but never structuring them into a well thought out piece.

Xequence 2 + AUM, Gadget, whatever is an effective compromise for me. It might be worthwhile looking at if you're kind of oriented toward traditional timeline based composition.

Xequence2 is a top of the line sequencer. You can download the Korg Gadget projects for two of its demos:

(Though for my purposes the Gadget sequencer is quite capable of controlling its own instruments, if that's all I want to do.)

There are a few tutorials on YouTube showing Xequence with AUM.

It would be cool if Xequence was AUv3 solely so that I could save all the sequences and connections in one AUM self-contained session. Perhaps in Xequence3?

  • LK is a great clips based and piano roll sequencer and it’s auv3 as well.

  • Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer even though a similar question had been previously addressed. Started to mess around with Helium and Rozeta for now. Enamored w/Fugue Machine. Getting a bit more confident in AUM. Thanks again for the kind support

  • PS: The xequence gadget thing/midi mapping in general I am still trying to wrap my head around but would definitely like to try. Feel like I def need to watch tutorials for that and learning LK.
