Cubasis 3 MIDI CC editing by drawing

I put a thread in it on the Cubasis forum, and they will be looking into it. But I thought I would ask on this forum to see if maybe I’m doing something wrong. When I draw in cc curves for the first time in a midi region, the curves all draw in just fine. But when I go back to edit them by drawing over top it creates a huge mess. Anyone else?

Comments

  • Anyone else can confirm? It’s sad…makes it impossible to edit CC curves. Was trying to edit CC curves for SWAM cello, but no luck-I just make a mess :(

  • Yeah, it has always been like that.

Makes me more sad it’s never been fixed. Does anyone edit CC curves in Cubasis?

  • What happens if you try to reduce the entire thing? I mostly just add points and move those around and add a few extra if needed.

    Reduce?

Select the entire pattern and then hit "reduce" in the automation top bar.

That function is only in track automation. CC curve edit area doesn’t have the reduce function

Thanks for pointing that out, my bad

No worries! I was kinda confused why they were different things for a while…

  • And sadly most of SWAMs slider do not register in the curves when recording the tweaks. I was quite dismayed to find this in Cubasis as I bought it hoping that it would be the best bet for composing with big string ensembles thanks to the track freezing. Nanostudio is incredible for drawing in automation but system resources limit me to about 8 SWAM auv3s.

I have this same dismay and buyers remorse.

Even not using SWAM, CC curves aren’t useable for Decent Sampler CC1, CC11, etc. or even a synth for other CCs. I’ve tried to record automation via track automation, but as you said, not all apps “push” their CCs through to the track automation. Not sure how that works in Cubasis- I’ve checked SWAM in AUM and the parameters are exposed in the MIDI control area.

In the thread on the Cubasis forum, I tried to get the team to at least acknowledge it was a problem to fix, but no luck yet. They said they would take a look, and I’ve followed up a couple times, but it’s been a month and they haven’t reviewed it yet.
I can use Auria Pro and use freeze there, but I don’t like it for composing. Also I can use Xequence2+AUM, but no freeze.
Hoping they acknowledge soon and put it on the bug list

  • I have been generally just using Cubasis for the final mixdown combining stems from other sources. Most of my favourite effects automate well. Sugarbytes, eventide, and toneboosters are all very solid in that sense. The parameters animate well too.

Are you using another DAW for writing/composing?

Heh yeah I used them all. Composition stage is primarily Korg Gadget or Ampify Groovebox. They are just such great environments to FOCUS in.

Completely agree about Gadget...I made a few songs in Gadget, export dry stems to Auria Pro for final mix with FabFilter FX.

I bought Cubasis to have an option for MIDI song writing with other synth/instrument apps (also to use on iPhone sometimes). But CC edit mess has me befuddled :D
I can use Xequence 2+AUM for that, but quickly need to use track freeze (which is why I wanted to use Cubasis). My aging Air 2 doesn't handle too many AU synths at the same time.
