Impulse responses
I’ve been using some Ownhammer impulse responses but I’m a little overwhelmed with the amount included in one bundle.
Which ones should I use as surely I don’t need all of them.
Comments
No one will be able to tell you that for certain.
That said, starting with a specific brand you like would help. Then checking what it’s for - how do you want it to sit in the mix? They have mid cuts, mid boosts, tight, etc.
Yes but do I need all of the ones in the pack to use on an iPad? I would like to trim the size of the packs down but I don’t know what to use and what to get rid of.
On the AB Forum wiki’s Forum Gold page there is a link to a post with a recommended subset of the files to use.
I believe there’s a summary folder in each of the IR types. These are a good starting point.
This may help you.

Start like this:
1) With each purchase there are four identical folders of IRs but with different sample rates. First, pick the folder with the sample rate you’ll be working in (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96). Choose a sample rate to work in, and open the corresponding IR folder.
2) Find and open the folder called “summary”. Delete the folder inside called “right channel”. That’s it. Those summary IRs in the folder, usually 8 or 9, are a good start. As per the manual, they’re a good general representation of that speaker/cabinet.
Thanks for this but should I use mono or stereo?
Mono
Here's a video I made on this topic - I hope it helps!
Thank you

@McD and @espiegel123 thanks for reposting this. It’s been quite awhile but that’s still the way I use cab IRs. The Ownhammers always seem more open and lively than others. The only big change has been the release of Nembrini’s IR Loader which makes it super easy to audition and shape IR files. Highly recommended.
