Suggestions on Conditional Signal Path Routing in AUM - Guitar Pedalboard Type Rig
Hi,
I am using AUM for fx for my violn and guitar. I am making “sort of” a pedalboard - in the sense that I have all of these various fx (oh yeah); and then sometimes I want certain combinations of fx on /off.
I have organized these fx into 5 or 6 channels in AUM. There’s a
- Channel One :: initial processing channel with IRs. [always used]
- Channel Two :: harmony processing; both simple and lush [if used/wanted]
- Channel Three :: modulation fx (chorus, rotary cabs) [if used/wanted]
- Channel Five :: phazers and synths [if used/wanted]
- Channel Six :: delays [if used/wanted]
- Channel Seven :: reverbs [always used, even if it’s very light]
Each channel has MULTIPLE fx of a similar type. Many times I will not use ANY of the fx in that channel - like many times I play without any type of harmony fx, or play without any types of delay fx. Most times I use only 1 of the fx plugins within a single channel. There are times where I’ll use 2 delays or 2 reverbs.
I have a picture here - but it’s just to give an idea. My question is below:
My question is the best way to route the signal chain????
IF …… I route it straight thru - Channel one to two, Channel two to three, channel three to four, channel 4 to 5, etc. BUT for some songs, I didn’t need ANY fx in that channel, can I move all of the fx over to left side (so they’re bypassed) and make the channel be like a pass-thru?
IS there a easy way to ‘skip over’ a channel, say go from Channel two to Channel four?
HERE’s the TRICKY part; many fx plugins do NOT have a wet/dry mix [insert crying emoticon here]. Some do. There’s a little circle off to the side of the fx plugin; however I believe the vendor of the plugin decides what you can use that for. QUESTION: Is there some ‘easy’ way to do a wet/dry mix of each channel?….. or would that turn this into a Rube Goldberg Machine?
QUESTION: ~~~~> Is there a "bypass" this entire channel feature in AUM?¿?
That would let me keep the routing from one channel to the next, whether or not I used an fx plugin within the channel or not. Plus.... with a "bypass channel" feature, I wouldn't have bypass or slide to the left any/all of the fx plugins I was using in that channel.
Food 4 Thought
Thanks for the Suggestions Here on Routing my new Pedalboard!

You can change what the ‘little circle next to the fx icon’ does by the way. Open FX app, top left of window hit midi control button, scroll to parameter you want to be The One and click the little half circle in bottom right corner and it will become what you want it to be (turns green). Now the other stuff, I have no idea hehe.
P.S - I am interested in this stuff too, currently getting a guitar setup going (albeit a tad simpler than yours😂)
Each fx has a Bypass parameter as per attached screenshot… simple to set up but not 100% sure that is what you are after? here I am just triggering it using the lowest note of the built in AUM keyboard.

@Mr_Darcy Thanks!!!
@GeoTony What I am hoping to do - is to bypass an entire channel - but keep the signal routing.
So for example: one channel has all of my chorus fx, and for a certain song, I don’t want any chorus - so I want to bypass that channel.
I could bypass all of the fx in the channel, but is there an easier way - to just bypass the entire channel? …… and keep the signal flowing through or technically around the channel into the next channel.
Try using the bus sends in the FX slot, rather than the Output slot.
You can then send a channel to multiple other busses (channels), and bypass certain ones while activating any others.
Also, if you keep your outputs sending to the audio out (instead of putting buss outs in the output slots), this in effect makes a dry/wet setup for you. The dry goes directly to output, and the wet comes from the bus sends in the FX slots feeding your other buss receiving channels.
Hope this makes sense.
If not, ask away and I’ll attempt to clarify.
Use AUM midi control to bypass all the plugins with the same note/cc command (set to toggle). External controllers give the best feedback, and therefore easier to trigger on the fly. However, you can use any AU virtual keyboard or pad that sends midi.
There is no functional difference
If you HAVE to look into ApeSoft's ApeMatrix which comes with two a few AU utilities that you can use in other DAW's (including AUM) one of which is called "mixer send receive"
BTW ApeSoft's ApeMatrix is 12.00 USD
@CracklePot idea is a better idea
@CracklePot
I think I got it…… the last ‘plugin’ in the Channel is Bus Send, rather than some sound effect.
That’s a GREAT IDEA… thank you!!
Yeah I think you got it.
In your example, make 2 buss sends.
One to your chorus channel, the other to the “next” channel (without chorus).
Then just toggle bypasses on those buss sends as needed.
Yep - that’s what I did; Thank You!
Can’t help with the main theme of this thread, but just wanted to say thank you for this fantastic tip!
