A usb hub in another hub?
Is this possible? Have you ever tried?
I will soon need to replace my old-time air1 with a new air 5.
I basically have all my midi devices (multiple keyboards, controllers and interface) and audio interface plugged into a usb2 powered hub using 6 ports.
This hub has an extra long cable going into usb to lighting adapter.
For a newer air 5, I will purchase a usb-c hub with a mini jack input probably.
Is it possible to keep my trusty usb2 hub plugged into a usb-c hub without any bugs or failures?
Do you think it can work?
Comments
Yes, it can work. Remember how older PCs may have USB ports on the front, back, and on a monitor. Those are hubs, connected to hubs, no problem.
You might see a longer lag, however.
Remember that iPadOS only allows one audio interface. So your mini jack audio output on the USB-C hub will not work when you connect another interface. The rule is: last one connected wins.
Oh, I didn’t figure out about pc front/screen usb input acting like daisy chain, thanks for enlightening me!
In this case I can have my audio interface on the main usb-c hub for max bandwidth and then all my midi devices on the chained usb2.
Sounds good. Just remember that the USB-C hub/dock may include a USB-C port that is for Power Delivery only (no data). So you'll probably need to connect the audio interface to a USB 3.0 port on the hub/dock.
