AUM Mixer on macOS?
Just wondering as I now have Mac silicon Mac, if AUM Mixer could be run on macOS? As can quite a few other iOS apps.
Comments
No. But the developer is considering a MacOS (Intel and M1) port.
You can easily find out whether or not apps are available for M1 by checking the Mac App Store.
Is there an app like AUM on the Mac?
You could take a look at Element by Kushview - https://kushview.net/element/
It's a modular plugin host that is very versatile and can host Audio Unit and VST midi and audio plugins. It's definitely not a traditional DAW (but neither is AUM) - there's no timeline or built in record facilities but the cheapest licence is only $5 (though you can build it yourself from the source code).

OK, thank you!
You're welcome!
Apples MainStage would be my recommendation. It’s functionality is close to AUMs. But I definitely prefer AUMs simplicity and design. Still hoping that Jonatan is giving the port a chance.
I'll check it out. Thanks.
Yes definite +1 - I tried MainStage and it was rather arcane compared to AUM, and the only other alternatives I have are very expensive (well down here they are) Camelot Pro @ $182 or Gig Performer @$284
Yes I had a look at that one...don't think it can play audio files but worth a look...I have no clue what compiling requires to create the app, if I did I'd definitely give it a try.
It can definitely play audio files - there's a built-in player in the app. Agree that compiling isn't always easy unless you're confident in what you're doing but $5 isn't a lot for what you're getting - it's a very impressive app. If you use VSTs or Audio Unit plugins then it'll load them - as far as I knew, MainStage can only load its own devices.
MainStage can use v2 and v3 audio units. It comes also with all the plugins that come with Logic. It makes for a really powerful and configurable workstation like setup. It's a much bigger pain to configure and use than AUM is though.
I tried compiling it without much success.
It's useful for some purposes, but I'm not very fond of the UI.
Ok - didn't know about the audio units - the info I found about it wasn't too clear...thanks for clarifying....
You're welcome. It doesn't support VST and the MainStage plugins themselves can't be used in non Apple DAW's, so that can lead to some confusion.
I tried MainStage couldn't really get the hang of it, but it was only $42 so no biggie (that's Oz $'s or the pacific peso, as we like to call it hahaha!)
The ones that are good are also very expensive, Camelot Pro (which is $29 on iOS) is $225 and Gig Performer which is $284
What I don't get is the HUGE price difference between Camelot Pro iOS and PC versions...when they are the exact same app...They must think PC owners are rich or something???? Probably another reason they will not make it ok for Mac Silicon...can't speak for AUM as they do not have a PC version.
There's also Unify which is interesting as a performance tool - again, it hosts VST and AUv2 plugins but there's a lot more besides - the devs 'Unify' existing plugins to incorporate their patches directly in the interface - some are free downloads, others are paid for. It's really useful for mixing and matching a number of synths into one massive playable instrument and there are built in samplers and file players as well. John 'Skippy' Lehmkuhl (also known as Plugin Guru) is the creator - he's got a regular youtube broadcast which highlights Unify and the main page for the app is here: https://www.pluginguru.com/products/unify-standard/
Ableton Live to me is the best AUM style mixer and plugin host on Win and Mac.
All the accessible audio and MIDI routing is there, plus racks that can be customized and extensive MIDI control is available. Might be too expensive though, compared to AUM.
It doesn’t run AUv3 plugins though. I really wish it would. Then I could use all my compatible iOS apps.
That's a bummer indeed. And Live users have been asking for AUv3 support since more than 2 years.
