  • I owned a beautiful ‘67 blackface Bassman for ~40 years but finally sold it because it was too frickin’ loud. Can’t wait to try this one!

  • Finally! It is awesome!

It’s interesting that you sold yours. Against my better judgment, I’ve been looking for exactly the amp you used to have. Do I need it? No, it’s way too loud. Maybe if I was in a gigging band. But if a well priced 66-67 blackface comes along, or a drip edge or black line, or even a 70-71 Silverface, I doubt I could resist. And I already have two Fender amps (a Pro Jr. IV and a hot rod deluxe).

It’s really true, a bassman with volume dimed is the greatest tone there is. The sweet spot is probably 6-7 on the volume, when the tubes begin to sparkle.

You know it and I know it, this era Bassman is one of the best amps of all time. Different from the original tweed bassmen that came before, but no worse than them. I would wager that the blonde, brown, black, and silver faces from about 1963 to 1971 are among the best amps ever. And apps like Nembrini Faceman (1967 BF) and the Bassman rig from th-u (1970 SF) only confirm this. As much as I love the apps, it makes me want the amp!

Btw, I find the Nembrini Faceman and the bassman th-u rig are both amazing, and they can sound quite similar actually. The difference is in the overall sheen and frequency that each developer brings to the table. You know what I mean? The Nembrini seems wilder and more open, fuller bottom end, more like a realistic amp in a room. The th-u rig sounds more produced and compressed, just as realistic, but more of an amp on a studio recording kind of sheen.

  • Yes, this one is dirty in all the right ways…

  • How is it as a bass amp? (Desperately looking for reasons not to buy it. The Hi-Watt just came out!)

  • Hellllll yes

  • What I love about Nembrini amps and effects like this (Faceman, Minotaur, Hivolt), which are essentially transparent and straightforward circuits, is the impression that my guitar is closer to the amp. I get more of the wood sound form my guitar and the connection and feel seems more immediate and realistic. It’s true that amps with simple circuits don’t have other things in the way, such as tremolo, reverb, or distortion. This makes the signal of the guitar much closer both to the input stage and the output stage. So I really feel that proximity with the Faceman.

  • I've been getting everything nembrini lately. I find it enjoyable to play with the different amps and effects.

dammit. I swore I was gonna stop with the amp sims. :|
off to listen to the demos. I hope they suck.

[edit] the product isn't even up on their web site yet.

As soon as I've seen the news I've rushed to flo's channel in the hope I could ear this amp... but nothing 🤷‍♂️

  • I won’t lie. I was hoping to see a picture of Dirk Benedict’s character in the A-Team

Flo's offline for a bit dealing with some personal business, but I'm sure he'll be back at it soon.

  • @espiegel123 and @Daveypoo , I understood Flo was just off here but would keep on posting on his YouTube channel.

See his most recent posting on YouTube.

  • @Gratouilli He is not returning to this board to my knowledge, but I was referring to his YT channel specifically.

  • @espiegel123 @Daveypoo ; Ah... ok. I haven't watched his latest video 😁🙈

  • A very quick check out of the amp. Mostly, I check out a crunch lead tone (with a little exploration of using touch to influence the distortion). It gets clean at the end:

    apologies for the finger noise.

  • @espiegel123 Nice demo, thanks for sharing it. Good emulation of an amp that probably wasn't easy to emulate.

Thanks. I'll try to get a less sloppy demo together with more tones.

  • I haven’t purchased this one yet.

Has anyone experimented with IRs beside the JBL D130F that’s looks to be included with it? Would be curious to get thoughts on the tones with some of the OwnHammer (r)Evolution Bundle Fender (and Marshall) cabs. Perhaps the Zillas as well.

  • Different sorta sound from the same guitar and pickup (neck humbucker) as the earlier example

  • Thank @espiegel123 for the samples!

While I love Flo’s incredible skills and talent, I also realize I will never be even remotely able to get tones like his with my level of ability.

Your samples give a more realistic example of what we mere mortals can expect to extract from a Nembrini amp, and it’s deeply appreciated.

  • Thanks for your videos, @espiegel123.

I just bought this for desktop (I’m sure it’s identical code) and it’s great! It’s a very playable amp - it just makes you want to keep playing in a way I’ve only previously experienced with S-Gear.

Still a confirmed S-Gear fan but this one will see a lot of use.

    Thanks @NembriniAudio !

  • @SNystrom @qryss @Skyblazer : Thanks. I am glad to hear that you found videos helpful.

@JoyceRoadStudios can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this one. It’s the one we’ve all been waiting for IMO.

I played with the beta a bunch but haven’t had time to try the release yet. I expect they’re the same though. I think it’s fantastic, and very Fendery. For those who were disappointed with the Soundmaster for being a 90s rock machine kind of Fender, the Faceman is the Fenderiest Fender we’ve all been fender bending for. No it’s not a tweed, but it’s definitely a blackface.

The most important thing with this type of Nembrini amp, which is basically clean and transparent, is how full and rich it can sound and how close the circuit seems to be to the guitar. I can actually hear the wood of my fretboard with the Faceman, and it sounds and feels like my guitar is inside the amp, rather than just in the room with it. It’s hard to explain, but simple circuits without reverb and other stages have less clutter so therefore less wiring inside and more closeness. This amp sim really sounds and feels realistic.

There’s a trademark sizzle there when the amp is pushed, which does impart some tweed bassman flavor, but even with everything maxed out it’s mid-gain at best and still blackface spanky. The selling point here is beautiful clean, full and rich, can get spanky, and an uncanny blackface fender sound that’s just close up and open. Nembrini does these circuits really well, in regards to transparent or uncolored fidelity. The Minotaur pedal set to boost is another such example. Just really full spectrum, none of that unnecessary compression.

I still reach for the old Nembrinis from time to time, especially the BST and Cali Reverb. But the newer Nembrinis seem to have some improvement, perhaps more fullness and focus in the mids, and less bottom end, fuller texture overall. I notice this with DC Voice, Mhr159 brown sound, BG Extacy, Hivolt, and now the Faceman. All good releases.

Same here. I was done with amps, don’t even know what I own any more. Yet I had too. And let me tell you, it doesn’t suck. It’s great.
Totally my cup of tea, very direct and dirty. No sheen or glowy stuff. It’s crappy in a beautiful way. Perfect for a raw sound.
Worth mentioning that this amp loves fuzzes!. Just tried BYOD (BigMuff) into Faceman and it’s a perfect match. The same fuzz into the Nembrini Cali sounds plasticky, like they cancel each other, whereas with the Bassman it enhances the sound, like they work in tandem.
Glad I got it. Swear it’s the last one 😬
