Searching for a Auv3 Plugin for descent pitch changing of the audio signal

I experiment with other frequencies then 440 hz. But my favourite iOS DAW does not allow to change the pitch in general. Is there a (CPU friendly) plugin for that job?

  • Do you mean for the entire mixed audio signal? I'd say that would be difficult.

Some synth apps let you change tuning of their instrument. That might be a solution.

Or, if you don't use Pitch Bend, you can use a StreamByter script to send a fixed PB value to a synth.

  • Yea there’s a couple options as @uncledave mentioned

A few that might work for ya… in no specific order.

    Unisonic by JAX
Jax also has a like 3 different Pitch Shifters actually.
Eventide has a couple. Ones called Crystalize I think.
    Audio Damage has discord 4

  • We could use more specifics on what you'd like to accomplish.

Do you want to change the pitch of just one app to have it align in pitch with another app that is set at A=432?

Or do you want a whole finished work in the DAW converted up or down by some precise
number of cents (fine grain pitch), frequency or 1/2 steps (transposition).

I noticed that the "rate" control in the AUM "File Player" does really good pitch shifting but this is NOT a live technique and most good pitch shifting will not be live. The ones that are live need to do some pretty complex functions.

Good sounding pitch shifters include Koala Sampler (again operating on recorded material), AUM file player, Eventide MicroPitch... I'm sure there are more but your "use case" is key.

I just learned that the Beatles would use the variable-speed control on their tape system to get a better sounding vocal on a project. So many John Lennon vocals are shifted almost 1 1/4 tone flat to make the vocal sound richer. So, much for A=440. I had an old upright that was 1/4 tone flat for decades before I took the risk and bought a piano tuning kit and used an iPad to bring it up to A=440.

I had a really old piano tuner tune a grand piano and when he was done he realized he had the pitch reference set to the extreme low setting which was noticeably off when compared with the radio... He was a sweet ol' man who took great pains to make his old Peterson Strobocon tuner from the 60's stop spinning so the piano was perfectly in tune with itself but
not great for playing along with backing tracks or other musicians. I worked with a piano player that got physically ill when the piano wasn't in tune with A-440. This is something we now just take for granted with digital keyboards but I'm sure many clubs still have very poorly tuned uprights.

  • For the highest quality results, non real time processing will be best. Time stretch / pitch adjustment is a CPU intensive process and requires added latency.

Does it need to be real-time?

  • Here’s the JAX aka Jens Guell apps I was talking about…

This is a bundle of both pitch shifters, 2 is time and 3 is frequency

  • Also which DAW? Cause I believe you can do that in a couple of them…

  • Auria Pro implements Élastique (zplane) time stretching and pitch shifting.
