What we need in 2022 from Music App Devs | 2022
It’s that time of the year when we ask our selves, “what do we really need from iOS music app devs? This year I have a specific request. Curious to see if you agree with me.
But what do you need? There's a lot of stuff we could ask for like synthesizers, drum machines, effects, functions, app optimisation etc.
Comments
I’m after a decent soft clipper after slowly being converted to Baphometrix’s Clip-To-Zero mixing strategy. It seems the best option so far is Toneboosters Barricade, but I’m really after an exclusive clipper like K-Clip . I’m no expert but I feel like this shouldn’t be that hard of a plug-in to develop. Let’s hope there are some devs out there who agree!
I need Flux:FX to be updated.
But I got this response 😢
We don’t need more synths, or drum machines, or reverbs, or effects. We need better DAWs with better work flows. Better and cleaner interfaces. The ONLY app that has this nailed down is AUM. But alas it’s only a mixer. BM3 is close.
We need . . . AUMdaw.
Drambo incoming update will accomplish this.
Aums snapshots and Drambo clip launch and arrangement page would hopefully solve my setup for a long continuous live set on one iPad device
My biggest request is for developers to optimize all their plugin apps, synths and effects for multi-platform use: That means all working on both macOS and iOS.
I’d like to see more of a standardization of bi-directional midi implentation in apps and daws so that gui controls will send midi back to controllers (for LEDS, specifically) so you don’t need to rely on manual input on the hardware for those changes to show.
We need a proper acoustic drums instrument like Superior Drummer or Addictive Drums. And we need a tool like Melodyne.
+1
Or Modo Drums.
I always hope iK multimedia make it available for iOS.
And we all dreaming about auv3 compatibility of all Korg ios products
Agree with this. iOS does synths, effects, drummachines, etc really well. The big missing hole (for me at least) is an Ableton/Bitwig level DAW.
But, for that to happen they will indeed need to optimize ipad performance better and take advantage of every last drop of power. So I also agree w/ HaQ
IKaossilator 2. Never was an app better suited to the format, but development just stopped. Even IAP packs would be great.
+1
All the DAW's I mangled with, are too colourful, cumbersome, too many information crammed in a screen, or too less, non scalable, too tiny fonts, etc etc.
I want a clear, understandable DAW. I like the layout of Ableton (not the page switch between clips and timeline), I like the colour coding of Bitwig (dark screen, orange markers, visible modulation in light blue).
The idea of AUM extended with a timeline, appeals me, especially with automation lanes.
It seems that most developers want to reinvent the wheel according to a DAW. Just take a look at desktop DAW's and take the workflow that most accessible (the least amount of clicks to do a task and integration of file management and access to plugins and effects).
The DAW that comes closest to a desktop DAW is still Cubasis to me, but i don't like the workflow.
The touchscreen usage of an iPad is a relief and a burden. I want an ideal integration between multitouch and mouse usage. I still prefer a mouse pointer above vinger/pen clicking.
Pianoteq. Period
Have you tried GarageBand?
I keep hoping Audio Modeling or MoForte will get into the modeled drums/percussion game.
Wow some one who gets it! I love iKaossilator, and I agree 100%.
Haven't the basic functions of that app more or less been incorporated into other synths and controller apps? GeoShred, for example? It's just an X-Y expression pad.
We just need more things that take advantage of the medium of the touchscreen beyond just “your finger is now the mouse pointer”. I’m sorry but TO HELL WITH this push to make iOS more like a desktop. If I wanted desktop shit I’d....no joke....be using a desktop. But I don’t want desktop shit and therefore I use an iPad. Why must one thing be turned into another? I don’t want Logic, Cubase, Bitwig or any of that shit for iPad. I want iPad exclusive, awesome shit that’s devoid of desktop GUI design paradigms.
Nope. Nothing has replicated the “note replace loop recording” for lack of a better term. If anything had, believe me, I’d be all over it. It’s about recording the music visually directly on the xy pad itself, where multiple instruments/tracks are represented and being able to edit the melodies live by simply playing different notes. It’s far from just an xy expression pad, it’s a new visual paradigm for recording music on a touchscreen which has been sadly abandoned it appears. Hope I’m wrong. I made an entire album with iKaossilator, nothing but the built in sounds.
They mentioned it on twitter a year ago, and radio silence ever since. Hope they didn’t decide to scrap it. Maybe if we all bombard them asking to beta test.
"I made an entire album with iKaossilator, nothing but the built in sounds."
Anything you could post here?
Ikaossilator is wonderful for performance. With a bit of familiarity the ergonomics work really well. You can do modal transpositions with a flick of the finger and change individual sections almost as easily.
I’ll be posting it on the forum here in the near future once I get some artwork together. Likely within the next week, sorry wasn’t intending to be a tease or anything that’s just where it’s at.
My big gripe is that iOS DAWS hide auv3 instruments behind a lot of menus, as if they want you to use their built in stuff first. AU instruments are THE thing. Loading an auv3 instrument I made (including effects) should be easy, but it’s not. Lots of menu diving, recreating effects chains, etc.
Except AUM . . .
And Drambo, I would say. It treats plugins as first-class modules, including the ability to save chains of them as presets, with parameter mappings that can be modulated in the same way that native modules can.
I've been hearing about a Drambo beta update with a ton of new features for what seems like ages, and they sound like they're enough to bump Drambo's feature set considerably.
I'd love to see this land
Are we waiting on Drambo again? Why don't you just tell us when it's available so we can skip many months of pain waiting. I was in pain... forgot about it and now, this. I'm not even going to bother to consider what "this" is. Its probably something Loopy Pro has on it's roadmap which might be another form of forum torture.
At least I've stopped expecting NS2 to ship it's roadmap from 20xx. See, I forgot about it.
Why don’t you just ignore the comments on upcoming updates? It’s really not as difficult as it might seem.
Notice that beepstreet has been very selective about what’s shared and there have been no commitments to any sort of timeline. Things like this take a huge amount of time and commitment and with the way life is atm, it’s not hard to imagine there maybe extra distractions present.
Some people love the speculation and excitement when beta testers give small hints as to what is to come, others don’t… hard to keep everyone happy but tbh, this forum seems like the right place for those types of teasers?
are we already 20xx??
and was it drambo to get audio tracks what we're waiting for?;)
