MultitrackStudio Update 4.4

A lot has happened here since the last forum update of the apps updates. Though some newer features have been noted separately on the forum…most notably the addition of MIDI 2.0, and MPE

The latest update below. Some will appreciate the “refresh” of the GUI, given that the app has a kind of “Brutalist” design sensibility. (Some cool GUI features have also been added over the last few updates for Pro devices)

This is a fantastic DAW, with many platform exclusive features. And is also the only DAW that is a nearly exact port of its PC/Mac version, where projects can be transferred directly in either direction…

If this level of performance is possible on an iPad from a 17.6 MB DAW, why can’t Apple bring Logic to iOS?

I especially like the ability to change time signatures within a project.

Interesting question. If they could code Logic in such a parsimonious way…
Maybe they should have MultitrackStudio’s developer do the job. Mr Bremmers is very talented

    There’s an idea.

  • You have a link to app?

  • No way around it - tracks are limited to two fx slots. Most of my tracks would have at least three. Pro q 3, korvpressor, and a reverb.

3 slots for audio tracks. Effect returns, groups (up to 8) are available as an option for some use cases

  • This looks very cool. Why might one choose this over, say, Cubasis?

Picked this DAW up 2 nights ago. Very impressed with its features once you get your head around a few oddities. Multi midi editor is cool showing multi tracks midi in different colours on the same window. Having the option in the built in keyboard to select other styles of keyboard and even AU keyboards think KB-1 is great. If you tap a single midi note you can turn it into chords. The midi editor works well with a iPad pen.

If you double tap play on a instrument track it takes you into practice mode so you can play a instrument when it’s closed on the screen and still hear it. Audio stretching in audio with a ghost view up top is kind of cool.

MPE and midi 2 support. Scoring and lyrics support, Automation. Time signature changes It’s all there. This video shows a taste of what you get it’s a DAW that’s definitely gone under the radar a bit but has had excellent support over the years.

This is the fatal flaw. It's good for arranging though.

  • Love this DAW and think it deserves a lot more attention, but fair warning: there’s something funky going on with the AU instrument slots right now. Whenever certain instrument plugins send MIDI, the plugin crashes. This renders many AU plugins with built-in sequencers, trigger pads, or keyboards unusable.

Interestingly enough, in my collection, Animoog Z, Model D, and Phosphor 3 work perfectly but TB Flowtones, Koala, and Ruismaker/Noir crash immediately. I think it only affects non-MPE keyboards. You can work around it by using MTS’s keyboard and sequencer but that’s not always ideal — I’m rather attached to Koala’s workflow.

Dev is aware of it and thinks it’s an iPadOS issue. Still happening on 15.4.

IMO it won’t detract from most workflows but for new users it can make MTS feel buggier than it actually is.

Mr Bremmers is pretty accesible on the forum if you’ve not tried that. Ill run it by him
I like the depth of the thing so I’ll use workarounds like render midi to audio for more fx, dedicate a group to a track for 5 slots, or the old reverb on a send type thing
    But yes fatal for some

  • I think I did bring it up one time, but it was a few years ago. And I do some of that stuff, it would just be nice to be less limited. At least to have the flexibility that I have in Cubasis.

  • Certainly wouldn't hurt to ask again though. Thanks.

    Done.
Who knows what dude will actually do. He’s an interesting guy…
He’s implemented a few things I’ve asked for (you’re welcome, lol) but you never know with him, he’s definitely his own man.
