120 hz - battery and cpu strain

    I'm pretty sure it's only 120Hz when you're actually scrolling and need the 120fps. Otherwise it can drop down to as low as only a few hertz to save CPU.

    Turning it off could increase battery drain. As @Tarekith says, the variable refresh rate drops the screen refresh to whatever is needed. 120Hz for scrolling, 24 Hz for movie playback, and less when nothing is moving on screen (depending on the device).

    The Apple Watch manages to keep its screen lit all the time by refreshing only once per second when idle.
