Ableton Live Site down all weekend.

edited March 2022 in Other

I noticed the Ableton Live site been down all weekend. I wonder if it’s just housekeeping or they been hacked or the new Push is about to drop!

Comments

  • ah... that explains why Ableton Live itself couldn't update itself yesterday?..

  • Maybe they are preparing for a launch of some new products?!

  • I really hope it’s not a new Push. I just got one a few weeks ago!

Your push will still be awesome though just like mine.. might kill the resale value a bit but that's the game..

  • We all want a push standalone with Ableton built in.

  • I hope it is a new Push, but sadly my push 1 is pretty much worthless from a resale perspective. Got it only a few months before push 2 dropped. Should have done an upgrade then, when there was a trade-in program.

  • Looks like the forum is back up and running, hopefully the main site will be too shortly. Definitely not an Apple style product launch, they wouldn’t take the authorization server offline for something like that.

I was thinking perhaps they're dropping the hammer on piracy with some new authorization technique I think they've been pretty lenient really considering the scale of it, native instruments did the same a while back with native access and gave their authorization an overhaul..

  • All seems to be up again now, haven't tried authorization because mines already done..

Yup, I’ll still love it. What an amazing machine. But…

Thing is though if you had a standalone push that could run Ableton it'd be a pretty watered down experience, live is so complex and deep I can't see how that would even work from a GUI perspective on screens the current size in push not to mention the fact that push is already quite a large piece of kit..

I reckon it'd have to be at least 50% larger to even get close to being usable as a standalone device with larger screens and more dedicated function buttons.. and what about text input for renaming clips and tracks etc..

  • I would love a smaller Push, with buttons more like Elektron buttons instead of those rubbery ones.

And maybe an audio interface and MIDI? TBH it’s already just great.

Agreed, I really don't think Live would work that well as a standalone product. Too many compromises, and some of the newer (better) effects have a pretty big CPU hit already on decent computers.

  • Akai Force with the recent updates seems like a nice alternative to push as standalone
Sure , less than half of Ableton's capabilities , but I don't think Push3 as standalone can offer much . Maschine+ is an example of instability and limitations

  • Maybe it's just significant server updates, or a change in hosting company.

  • Push 2 needs some updates for the display. eg a mode for showing the session clips on the screen so you don't need to look at the monitor so much (or not at all). There is a script from sigabort which does this, it's pretty good and works ok but it's a hack and an official update to support this properly would be great.

  • Hardware issues sadly, nothing more than that.
