Make Koala Neapolitan
If you could add a 3rd bank of effects to Koala named “Chocolate” to make it the Neapolitan ice cream of apps, what would you add?
I’d love to see buttons instead of sliders. And I’d want the P.O. 33’s 6/8 quantize, scratch, and fast scratch. A tape stop and record stop would be nice.
Comments
I'm curious... is there a Koala Forum or Discord? I wonder what new features are being requested.
I don't love the sliders for FX like pitch... pitch is also best served by 2 controls: large and fine grain tunable.
Maybe the FX are modeled on some groove box hardware.
Very active Discord: https://discord.gg/Hc5WRbXtef
Got 8 slots right? OK Mine would be:
Tape emulation ( wow, flutter etc)
Delay with pitch shift
random glitch
resonance
granular
A more ambient sounding Reverb
Tremolo
chorus
Also maybe add the ability of koala fx to reposition effects in the chain would be good.
If we are on wish lists, maybe have like 2 different effects chains we can route samples to.
That would basically enable me to get an android phone and just use Koala and nothing else.
And I love your idea of Neapolitan flavours btw.
this has been asked for a long time, probably since the release of koala fx, but has not yet been implemented, which is strange since, in theory, you just need to carry out a "code transfer" from one application to another.
That is weird, but I guess Marek has his reasons!
"The king of what? The king of style.
Sure, l got styles already that's more complex that nobody know about.
l mean, super-duty tough work.
See, this is just semi-like, what l would call it.
But, if l really get into it and start camouflaging it, l don't think you even be able to read it."
I think I’d prefer fewer effects but a bit more control. Bin off comb, ring, dub, talkbox, vibroflange and dirty. Give me more control of delay, reverb and filter.
Oh yeah! at least a normal amp envelope, at least replace the release with a decay))
at least the most common lp filter with resonance and envelope))
naming of the pads, again, is already somehow implemented in stems.
Style Wars!!
♥️
Forever!!
@ehehehe in an admittedly quite oblique fashion, that's exactly what I was saying.
Marek will add more to Koala because that's his nature (and I'm sure it'll be amazing) but what I am absolutely certain he won't do is compromise the cleanliness of the UI and speed of the workflow.
Precisely.
I think one more bank of FX would keep it clean but greatly expand functionality. Much else would probably detract from the tidiness many of us appreciate.
Agreed 100% @ChancedMusic - one more bank would work perfectly... and it's almost as if there's space left for just one more button on the FX screen already 👀
Pretty much what my exact list would be like. Great suggestions.
I think Koala is an almost perfect app as-is, but one more bank of effects would be very welcome. Like others said, I just don’t want it to get too cluttered and weighed down with too many features. That’s a big part of the charm for me. Simplicity. Being able to record effects automation would be great though.
@elf_audio tagging for visibility 😉
@PeteSasqwax if you save drum sets / sound sets are they pointers or do they import into the app? And what if I move the files?
I mean I suppose I could read the docs
I agree with you, but at the same time, I have faith in @elf_audio! He has done really well implementing new things without adding too many complications. I definitely feel another bank of effects would be great though! and I will pay for any updates happily, I'm fingering my euro coins already in hopeful anticipation!
Hehe if you read the docs about Koala it'll set a worrying precedent about reading docs in general and at some point I'll have to concede that I should do the same. To avoid all of that: it saves the sounds within the .koala file which explains why your Koala app could be the largest storage hog on your device but I wouldn't have it any other way. Moving things and breaking projects gives me The Fear so anything that avoids that is to be praised heartily
Agreed! I’m sure he has something up his sleeve. I’m excited for the new strum feature to come back.
Eight new fx for koala? I have one I’d like to suggest…
Convolution effect with user/sample based impulse response (convolution 1-4 effect slots). As convolution can be used to model anything from amps to reverb.
A few more suggestions:
A bus to effects or even a few so I don’t have to resample as much…it is a workaround but it’s a little too wordy depending on the situation.
Reorder the effects perhaps?
Koala is super dope either way
Thanks @PeteSasqwax
OH man I'm so ready for new effects... I know people can't share, but dammit...I'm jonesing here!
I’m anxiously awaiting the new update. apparently it’s a big one 🤩 I know we share the love for Koala so I’m sure you’re stoked as well
Yes!!!! So much! We definitely have very similar tastes in apps!
Any news on release date!?
IIRC Marek told the Facebook group that there would be a mostly-invisible code update this week or next, then a major feature update a week or two after that. I’m not in the beta group so I don’t know if the timelines have changed since last week though!
oh man!!! exciting!!
I haven’t heard unfortunately. I read somewhere a while back it would be near the fall but I’m not sure when. I can’t wait though lol
I have no idea what it is, but if it’s a built in synth/drum machine or AU hosting, it’ll completely change the game for me.
