50 / 50 listening session planned for later today. 100% positive review anticipated. I am not a negative Nelly.
I’ll jot down some generic ideas.
Nice use of your interbank editor selecting the choicest auto generated options that’s true… some people use the lamest shit).
Not really my type of dance music so my wife thanks you. She’s not a fan of my attempts to wobble about.
How DID you make this? It’s like magic?
I finally got to check this out while driving through a really long "In 'n Out Burger" takeout line.
You nailed the "French Connection", "Taxi Driver" urban Noir vibe with your Mancini Big Band backing track and delicious sax ramblings.
The piano part really makes the genre work too.
Let's see how my "forecast" of a review fares against that actual soundcloud deliverable:
Spot on: Your curating of the generated lines is masterful. You get 100% credit because an app will accept just about anything that passes the MIDI 1.0 specs. It takes a musical toknow what to keep.
A swing and a miss: This is exactly the type of slow grind blues that my wife and I can dance too.
It’s like magic the way you put these together. I own the same apps but I never get work with such integrity as a whole composition.... because I don't edit seriously enough and I don't practice the GeoShred interface to really sound like I'm playing on a level with a real player.
Kudos. Track of the month for me. Really, really impressive.
I liked the immediacy of this. And the percussivity.
The percussive immediacy is also likable (in the US) and likeable (everywhere else that uses English).
"per cussivity" should be 2 words perGoogle. Cussivity is the tendency to use profane or sacreligious expressions. This is a great example of Godless music, per chance.
@McD… it’s just two words in a portmanteau… if you remember your Lewis Carroll….. percussive sensitivity… percussivity… so saith the frumious bandersnatch.
Well. make it personal then. Ha-rumph.
I'll invent a portmanteau:
Piaknowitall
or pianoaccount
or Pia-no-fucking-way.
Pian-oh-no-you-ditn't or pianobless oblige (you snob).
Pian-my-foot-will-ya (why I otta! 3 stooges)
[Let's keep this music on the front page a bit longer... good stuff huh?]
A few years ago you two would have been act on vaudeville🤹♂️
I appreciated the ‘percussivity’ comment @LinearLineman . I was going to rein in the piano but glad I didn’t.
Also thanks for the Mancini reference @McD . I could only think of Nelson Riddle last night. Never even seen Taxi Driver or French Connection !
The strings just sort of worked with almost no tweaking. Even the drum solo near the beginning was a mistake, iBassist just stopped playing for some reason which I guess is just happenstance… (see what I did there😊)
This music just feels like NYC and the movies are pure NYC.
Taxi driver actually had a Bernard Herman score.
And the French connection had a score by Don Ellis.
Score wise your piece sounds like Elmer Bernstein's "Walk on the Wild Side":
or maybe "The Man with the Golden Arm":
or Mancini's "Touch of Evil"
Absolutely great. I love this!
Good to see you weigh in on this epic performance.
After listening to the GeoSWAM album (with each track focused on using 1 instrument for all sounds) I wondered what @GeoTony could do with a whole raft of instruments. And here it is.
A divine swagger
That huge stab at :30 made the hair on my neck stand up. I can't wait to hear this in headphones.
I ditched the GeoSWAMs for the full SWAMs for this one…
IBassist is playing the Bass plus it created the Rock Drummer and Soft Drummer backing (used the XY pads to get some variation while it was playing)
It’s also playing (with Note Range Filtering in AUM to manage the number and pitch of notes)…
-Ravenscroft 275 via ChordJam
-BeatHawk Pizzicato Strings via ChordJam (varied the octave on this and previous while playing)
-BeatHawk Strings via Rozeta Scaler
-SWAM Bass Trombone via Rozeta Scaler (this and the previous having their input notes varied by Rozeta LFO)
Then ChordJam was played (by me) to add…
SWAM Bass Trombone, Baritone Sax, Bass Clarinet, Euphonium and Bass Tuba.
Finally SWAM Tenor Sax was added via GeoShred
I listened in headphones last night and I really enjoyed it. Great composition on it's own merit, made even better by excellent production. I could hear the stereo placement of the instruments and it gave the feel of a live group playing on a stage in front of me. Nice!
That sounded really good. I don't think I've actually heard iBassist play before; its... kind of convincing!
Very nice Tony!
Bassline is great! Sax lines great, you’ve got yourself a winner here!
Oh, very nice.
