How to Add an AUV3 to Drambo
Hi,
Despite watching Youtube videos..... I can't seem to add an AUV3 plugin to Drambo.
When I add a module, and under 'Generator' there is an 'Audio Unit Instrument' option. But..... when I add it, there's no way to pick the specific plugin or AUV3 fx that I want?
Once I load a Audio Unit Module in Drambo, it says "Stand Alone"? What does that even mean?
This is sooOOOOOOoooOOOo frustrating. IF there are some 'pre conditions' for adding AUV3 plugins, why doesn't the Drambo software check for those conditions to be met, and inform you if they're not.
See the screen snapshot.
TIA
Comments
Drambo standalone can load AUv3s. No AUv3, however, can load an AUv3. The OS doesn't allow it.
Perhaps it’s an order
Just kidding, of course. But just wanted to ask if, in general, you’re finding the app to be quite easy to learn. I had it recommended by a few people (and of course, it’s a regular here). Despite initially shrugging it off, I'm still drawn to it. Just can’t help thinking I'd get too frustrated with it.
Cheers!
We're here to help
There are 2 options to use AUv3 plugins together with Drambo:
1. Either use Drambo as an AUM replacement or
2. Load your AUv3 plugin of choice in AUM and route its output back to Drambo.
Drambo is efficient enough to load several AUv3 instances of it inside AUM, don't worry.
In other words, instead of launching AUM as the host, launch Drambo instead. Once Drambo is the host (aka “Standalone”), you’ll then be able to load all of your AUv3s!
Thanks! Not sure if you meant to quote me. My query was a general one regarding how intuitive it is to get going in the app.
That was intentional. We don't want you to get frustrated over Drambo 😉
Using Drambo as Standalone (start it first, not within a 'host' like AUM or AudioBus), when it becomes a 'Groovebox' on its own, with the ability to add AUV3's to it on its channels, is a whole different beast compared to adding it to a host to use Drambo as a separate instrument. Drambo is a really powerful host for me, and I use it like that all the time. Sometimes, I start with AUM and add Drambo as an AUV3 to use it as a drum machine, or use a synth I build or got from Patchstorage.
To come back to your question about how intuitive it is to use. As a standalone, it is pretty straightforward if you are used to the Groovebox idea. Just add AUV3 instruments to the tracks, and use the sequencer. Then, you can also build your own synths or instruments. This is also pretty straightforward if you understand synthesis a bit. Start with an oscillator, add an amp envelope and just add steps to the sequencer, off you go. There are many recommended tutorials on youtube about building your instruments.
Thanks
I guess part of my doubts are due to having never used a groovebox. I did used to be able to program a Boss Dr-660 with my eyes closed, so maybe that counts for something
I suppose when it comes to intuitiveness, I'm only really thinking about the general usage of sequencing, connecting instruments and effects etc. Much as with Reaktor, I don't really have any inclination to build my own stuff from scratch. but at the asking price, if for no other reason, it seems worthwhile to benefit from those who are graciously sharing patches.
I already have a full desktop DAW, with which to stare at blank project pages, day in, day out. So It would be nice to learn a different way of generating music
