Any AU effects emulating clean DAWs?

Which ones are you using?

  • Fools day stuff? :D

  • So, I took a chance and just picked up Magic Death Eye for $24.99.
I must say my mix sounds pretty polished once the AU slot is configured the way you have it.

I tried this same configuration with TB Reelbus. Both sound transparent, but in a different way it seems. Or is it me??

We need some spectrograph traces from @jolico to compare the antialiasing from each of the bypassed plugins.

  • Remember to add TB Morphit and disable it, for higher than 100% transparency

  • Has anyone tried this with various sample rates? Does dithering have any noticeable effect?

  • Airwindows console, alas not on iOS!

  • I’ve muted all the things and am not hearing anything. Is there some kind of special convolution mute I should be applying?

    Drambo can do this

I’ve also null tested them and discovered that AUM’s bypass preset is the best on iOS, because it makes both AuV3s sound identical.

    Here are some spectrograms:

Can you explain what you are asking? I don't understand.

  • This thread speaks to me

Don’t do all that work everybody! If you send me your masters I’m able to bounce them in any DAW of your choosing with no plugins or dither and at the same sample rate. Let’s say $200/track?!

  • @jolico those clearly show the effects of lossy compression, please post some BMPs

Remember guys, safety first: ALWAYS use a limiter when emulating a clean DAW.

  • It’s important to understand the target media. Vinyl, lossless, and compressed formats require significantly different bypass approaches.

I can’t risk the chance of forgetting to bypass it! I would rather lose my monitors and/or ears.

Sorry. Which DAW emulation effects are you using? Preferably AU.

  • You don’t have to do everything in the box, you know.

Oh heck. It’s 12:58am EST, on April 2.
I suppose I need to come clean now?

I suspect the joke is beginning to turn on me now. But in case you’re being serious, and anyway it’s April 2, April Fool’s!🥸

  • Screw plugins, what hardware clean DAW emulators are people using? Are they suitable for live use, or only for post-production?

If hardware isn't practical, for crying out loud, please at least use an IR loader. I've had pretty good success with Thafknar loaded with an empty wav file. The census is that professionally produced empty files are far superior to free ones you can find on the net. However I have very, very carefully recorded and tuned one of my own, which I'll attach.

Just import the zip into Thafknar and bypass it in the DAW of your choice. For added realism it is recommended to set the mix to 100% dry in Thafknar.

    Enjoy.

Careful not to overdo it with the realism, because just like over acting, too much makes it sound fake.

It is best to only open half an instant of Thafknar in your DAW.

Great point. Try to avoid the uncanny valley effect.

So maybe we should be considering Analog vs. Digital. Are there any really good virtual analog clean DAW emulators? Does it matter these days on iOS, or is Desktop level processing only appropriate?
