I did check the KQ Dixie manual before. It doesn't explain the effect of detune on the frequency. Detune seems to be working OK. I was just curious how it really works because DX7/KQ Dixie supports it and NFM does not support it.
@RyoutaKira Hello, what exactly does the 'Detune' parameter do in KQ Dixie?
'The oscillation frequency can be shifted from -7 to + 7 (de-tune).' - what does that mean?
Thank you,
Found this: https://yamahadx.yahoogroups.narkive.com/gS4pivQC/question-04-detune
Hopefully Ryouta can shine a light on it.
And this: https://github.com/asb2m10/dexed/issues/88

I believe that post is from the Dexed developer, which I think KQ Dixie is based on.
Cool, thanks, interesting! Looks like it is some magic formula, I can see why he just interpolated between those values he measured. The detuning of the saws in the supersaw is also a magic formula, but closer to fixed intervals (for up and down) than these values.
Incidentally, there are literally THOUSANDS of free presets for KQ Dixie available on the web. You should do yourself a favor and check them out.
Here’s one source: http://dxsysex.com/

I’ve never come across any synth with the vast selection of presets available to it like DX-7/KQ Dixie. There are decades of sound designers and musicians work just sitting out there. And most of what I've reviewed is great stuff.
Cool! Thanks, this looks like a nice resource for syx, I like the huge amount of stuff lower down on the page as well.
That looks like a fun starting point for programming KQ Dixie patches.
iWavestation can load in wavestation performances (multitimbral combinations of individual patches with key ranges and velocity switching). There are only a few thousand of these available for free I think, and individual tastes will vary a lot, but still pretty interesting.
But I guess for the DX7 we are talking more like 100000 available patches. That is pretty amazing.
👍
KQ Dixie is an exact emulation of the actual DX7. So you can use the Yamaha manuals to get a better explanation of the parameters. But it seems like Detune is imprecise. From the manual:
I believe the best manual is the "Yamaha Authorized Product Manual DX7 Digital Programmable Algorithm Synthesizer", published by Yamaha America, 5/20/99. It has more detail than the earlier versions. I think I got it from a Yamaha website.
