Record on iPhone comp on reaper

I’m trying to figure out a workflow where I create my music with Reaper on PC, then render and copy to the iPhone for recording vocals with dubbing. After recording the vocals with looping and multiple takes, move the recording back to Reaper for comping.

Currently I’ve used GarageBand with selecting and sharing each take at a time but that is too much work. Anyone that knows of a better app/process for this workflow?

Sounds like you're looking for a looper like Loopy Pro, and transferring files over to Loopy.
If you rely on looping, I guess you're splitting the Reaper track into sections?

  • In my case I’m looping the whole song over and over and recording each loop as a take.

  • I'd use Audio Evolution for that specific purpose.
It's easy to upload the rendered audio file from the Reaper desktop to Audio Evolution over WiFi (using WebDaV) and record multiple tracks on top. Then download the recorded tracks from the Reaper machine.

That’s probably the best workflow for the OP’s intended purpose, good recommendation! I forgot that audio evolution runs on the phone as well as iPad.

@joalv if you are ever in the position where you are using Mac, you can move projects from logic to GarageBand iOS and back- it renders the logic project as a stereo file in a GB project, then any tracks you add while on iosGB automatically show up in your logic projects using iCloud. But, on PC that’s not an option, so the above suggestion is a better one for your situation now.

I’d use Loopy. It is super easy to use as a take recorder. The retrospective looping feature is especially handy for this…you can hit record AFTER a take you want to keep.

Exporting the recordings are easy, too.

I find the workflow pretty seamless for something like this.

You can import the backing track to its timeline and set it to loop the section of interest.

  • That was my first thought too @espiegel123 but how do you get the audio files from the desktop to the iDevice?
Neither Loopy HD nor Loopy Pro seem to have any kind of WiFi access and there's no AirDrop on PC AFAIK.

    Try Zenbeats for iOS<->PC
edit : I don't know if the free version supports importing flies

Also for file transfer check Snapdrop , it works via the browser
    (free and open source)

Dropbox, Google Drive or the like. If windows PCs can share disks to the network , Files can access them. ‘Sneaker net’ using a hard drive or SD card.

Alright. So far I’ve decided to try out the loopy way. It was the least expensive and seems useful for other things as well.

So I rendered an mp3 from reaper on the pc and sent it to iCloud. On the phones file app I shared the mp3 with loopy and it turned up as a new loop. I made some scratch recordings and tested saving as “samples” on iCloud which was saved as aiff files. These reaper imported without problem. So one part of the problem solved.

Next step is to see how it works for doing the actual recording session.

    Thanks for all the input!
