@McD : thank you for that dignified and wise response. I appreciate it. :) Another Python fan here btw. Fortunately, this wasn’t the right room for an argument ;)

Thank you for helping me deal with hurting someone I respect. I like to think I wouldn’t;t hurt someone I don’t respect but I have erred many times in the attempt to get a laugh by taking an easy target down in the process.

I had a boss that was anail compulsive about details like taking exactly 1 hour for lunch and getting in the office by 8AM in a California area where most had 1 hour commutes and accidents could play havock with timings. She would come into her office and not talk to anyone for days but she was on the phone working, I assumed.

Anyway, at a group meeting I quipped “She’s saving up to buy a personality.” When she stepped out of the room to get something. And the room was split right down the middle… many laughed and the other half that respected her gasped at the insult. I think they know she was just an extremely introverted person and not a malicious soul.

But I have made the most egregious mistakes in life reaching for a laugh and not thinking of consequences. It can also swing towards not wanting or attempting to make anyone laugh for months at a stretch. On the whole, I prefer taking the risk and searching for something clever to add to an otherwise pretty dull cascade of text.

  • Greetings. It’s actually sweet to see people resolving an issue like adults on a BBS.

So to maybe get this thread back on track: I’m wondering about a hardware iPad setup to pull this off. Specifically, when I play into my computer I prefer very small buffers, like 64, if I’m running entirely through the computer. What are people using to get in and out of their iPads, what are their buffer settings, and how are you powering everything?

    Thanks.

I’m currently testing this out right now.

I’m using an iPhone SE 1st gen as an
effects processor for an analog mixer.
Buffer is set to 64 samples.
    Sample rate 44.1kHz/24bit

    Sounds great.

The old Focusrite iPad Dock is still my favorite for a quick & simple setup. Serves as a rugged stand too.
It works with all iPad Minis and iPads that have a Lightning port.
Even though my old iPad Mini 2 is not the fastest, it has enough horsepower to run Drambo effect patches easily.

  • Thanks both. Is there a way to set audio buffer size in Drambo the way that you can in AUM?

    Yes.

    Go into Settings.

    Scroll down.

  • Found it. Thank you, though I notice it only goes down to 128. I can work with that but I like 64 better.

One other question: I'm running an RME Babyface as my interface. I have the guitar coming in mono, but when I select "audio input" it only allows stereo pairs, which gives me the guitar in only one ear. In AUM I'm able to select individual channels of the Babyface.

If I can figure that out, I've got it working and am very excited to get into some wild audio processing setups.

Use the Stereo to L/R module to select which input of the 'stereo-pair' to use.
From that point onwards the signal should be mono and not panned left or right.

I use that module to select which of the two channels I feed into the Flexi sampler for sampling.

  • Thank you! I had to figure out how to route it out but now I've got it working.

And yet...stem recording makes no sense to me. I've clicked the tape icon at the top, as well as on the tracks I want. Then I hit play and it says my stems are in the recordings folder, but there's nothing in there.

I can record fine in AUM. Here's a little complex LFO into filter/waveshaping distortion thing I whipped up in Drambo. The granular and multitap delay are on other tracks in AUM.

    Are you sure?
Open the left top burger menu, hit Files then Samples then Recordings.
You should see a folder with the same name as the project you've saved.
    You'll find the recordings there.

Sadly this wasn't my experience. It works great with my old iPad 4th gen but wasn't happy with my 10.5" Pro and kept dropping connection in AUM

I had 2 units serviced because of dropping connections even with smaller iPads and I'm almost 100% certain that it was the Lightning connector.

  • It's odd, I thought it was potentially defective but it works without any issues at all with the 4th gen so I just use it with that. It's my standalone Samplr hardware device for processing external audio signals elsewhere in my setup.

Thanks. I found the problem. If I don’t “save as” first, Drambo dumps it into an unmarked folder. Now every5ing is working. Thanks for all the help.
