Return Of The Elephant
Since so few listened I took the opportunity to remix this adding SWAM Tenor Trombone a fourth lower to the Sax, Flug horn section.
I always think of @richardyot explaining his workflow and that he revisits tracks at a later date to see if they hold up. I do that more often now, thanks to him, when I see I could do better.
Comments
Nice laid-back jazz, the horns bring Sketches of Spain to mind, even though there are no trumpets.
Personally I find it's useful to have some time pass before I can really evaluate the work, a few months later you always have a different (and probably fairer) perspective on what you've created. And of course for those as prolific as yourself I imagine there will be some surprises as some pieces will be forgotten in the pile.
I like this. I imagine a mother elephant and her baby strolling across the plain. The baby takes two steps for each of the mother's one step. That would sync up with the music at the beginning. The sax would be the baby's trunk in motion. I could go on, but that's just what I conjured up from this.
Have you ever considered doing another track like "Modulation Of Bees" again? I like when you go bonkers once in a while.
I need a couple of days to catch up these days. I liked both the original and the revised version - I think the remix sounds a bit crisper?
Thanks for listening @richardyot. The subjectivity of listening is quite a conundrum. I have listened to both versions and now I think the first is better. I’ll post it below in case you want to give me your opinion.
I think, as artists, we have to accept there is no absolute ever with what we create. All we can do is accept and move on realizing the act of creation itself is where the meat is.
@JudasZimmerman, thanks as always. I think your observations are correct. At first I thought, oh yeah, the second is much better. Now I don’t think so. It points to the idea that the rush of creativity is what predicates one’s opinion. The further one gets from that moment the more the reality of subjectivity sinks in.
Thx @Paulieworld, I’m glad it sounded elephantine to you. As to the Modulation of Bees, I have been off synths lately. My complicated personal life has led me to the solace of jazz. I also think my use of presets and little fx knowledge has limited my usage, whereas others here are a lot more adept with them. But I may give it another shot soon. I appreciate the interest, tho.😘🙏
I sure with you'd make that Rap album you promised when you created this thread:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/36460/why-i-love-rap/p1
I'm all jazz'ed out. Too many notes and not enough loops. I start trying to detect where the loops occur and they never show up. Sure you sometimes split the piece into 2 MIDI cycles so they are all about the length of an urgent wank. Is that a coincidence?
Sorry... I felt the need to stir a little excrement after 4 days at the hospital and a growing rage over the fallibility of the human machine. We are all so lucky to be alive. There are so many ways to die. She survived another systemic infection while on the 2nd round of chemo thanks to antibiotics which also seems to have made her impotent as predicted by the reddit incels. Still monitoring her temp to see if the antibiotics worked. We hit 102 today and dropped to 96.8 an hour later. There is no God... just a cruel bitch called Mo'Fo Nature.
I do think you should do a poll to select your Rap handle. My recommendation is:
"DJ Solarpanel" since you have alopecia like Jada Pinko Smith. It's a reference to the re-cycled joke:
"God didn't make me go bald for no reason: It's a sunroof for a sex machine." (Rimshot- cymbal crash).
@McD, just for the record I don’t have alopecia. Sorry for your wife’s, ordeal. Cut, burn and poison. It’s still pretty medieval. But in five years I think things will be a lot different.
As to rap…. Too many words to have to create. Jazz is easier, tho I heard this Chick Corea piece and was in awe, as usual…
I'm glad you replied. I was concerned that my comment wouldn't be taken in the way I intended. When I saw the graphic and the title, I thought of one of my favorite movies as a child, 'Hatari' with John Wayne. The Henry Mancini soundtrack was fantastic and I even played 'Baby Elephant Walk' as an accordian recital piece when I was 8.
I certainly understand life's complications. Hang in there my friend!
Mancini loved to write blues tunes. Baby Elephant Walk is a 12 bar blues format tune.
Sure. Alopecia literally means "baldness" and there are several types.
Thankfully, I'm not within slapping range. I suffer from this debilitating genetic abnormality too... we are being "dome shamed". But I have "Dome Pride" and refuse to wear 3rd party hair on top. I do like hats to maintain body heat and because it increase the mystery when meeting new people.
The mystery has been described by my wife as: "Does he think that hat isn't a red flag for male pattern baldness? It's the uniform of the aging hipster."
I believe you go deep into the hairloss and shave your whole head. I grow the sides long but did a buzz cut just last week when I trimmed my 4 inch ZZ Top Beard down to a "go-tee" or a "face merkin".
@McD, extended jazz listening, not classical, grows long hair. It’s worked for me.
